As the squadron PIO I can assure you that we will be keeping WIX up to date as much as possible. :D

And on that note, if you look at our homepage (www.cafb29b24.org) you will see a quick video of what it takes to hang an engine.

The next month is going to be very busy, and we will do our best to keep things up to date, but it might just be very short statements.

Dave,

Know how busy y'all are an everything, but I couldn't let this item on eBay pass by:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Boeing-B ... rtsQ5fGear

...Just thought y'all might be interested, as it's a Boeing B-29 Gun Sighting Station Upper Turret (or so it says).

Yes, that appears to be a sighting station for the CFC, (central fire commander). Are you going to buy it and donate it to the squadron?? The CFC could take or give control of any or all the guns turrets on the B-29, to any position that had the best firing angle. Except the tail gunner.

Would if I could, Dave - no job right now. Just thought I'd let y'all know it was there, is all.

i just read today that T-Sq-54 in Seattle has her engines 'named'

Engine 4 is known as Joan Crawford (she was difficult to work with!), while
engine 3 is Rachel and engine 2 is Stephanie. Engine 1 is currently unnamed

Good tradition to keep going!

That's great news! I was up there last year and they never said anything about this. I'll call Herb tomorrow and get the skinny. I need the glass/plexiglass bubble that is installed on the bottom of the fuselage, where the drift meter is installed, so I need to talk to him anyway. I'll post a picture of it tomorrow, if anyone knows someone who has one. I had a drift meter donated and want to put it in the navigators station where it used to live.

This is a picture I took of the Driftmeter dome as it was on Sentimental Journey at Pima...
If anyone has one or can make one, let me know!

I would encourage all who are in the Midland area to swing by the CAF Memorial Day celebrations. thank some of the veterans there, stop by and thank Dave and Rick for the work they have completed on "FIFI" drop a dollar or two in the donation bomb, and if you are still there around 2 you might have a nice surprise!

Fly safe,
Chris

Gee, I wish the CAF would be more transparent and not keep FIFI things so secret! Seems to be more incentive to be at MAF on Memorial Day. This just put out in a special edition of "On The Fly", an E-mail update sent out to members:

"B-29 FIFI Roll-Out Memorial Day
Be sure to join the CAF in celebrating Memorial Day and see FIFI roll-out of the hangar for a four-engine run-up! We are excited to see FIFI moving closer to her first flight later this summer. Come out to the CAF at 2 p.m. to see and hear all four new B-29 engines start-up for the first time!"

Outstanding!

So will Monday be the ACTUAL first start-up or the OFFICIAL first start-up?
