Hey Robbie, if you don’t have this book http://www.amazon.com/363rd-Fighter-Gro ... 076431629X I would highly recommend it, it has one picture of your father standing with 3 other pilots from the 381st plus a few pages with some of the missions he was involved in. It also has this info about him,
(Served with the 363rd from February 1944 – August 1944; to states; ex – 365th Ftr Grp
67 missions, P-51B B3-E, 43-24752 “Stinky”)

Thanks Jason, yea I do have the book. Fellow by the name of Steve Blake (sp) did a history of the 363rd in a publication called "Fighter Pilots In Aerial Combat" which Dad contributed to. I do not remember, but their might be some stuff about your Grandfather in there. I also don't know how you get past copies of the magazine, it has been out of print for quite some time. I have an email address for Steve, PM me when I get a chance I will dig it up for you, he is really a great guy, took a lot of pride in doing the series on the 363rd. 8)

Steve's great guy and I'm sure will help if he can. I
have all the issues somewhere. It was a 6-7 part series.
amazing how many of those folks went to the 354th FG!
Mcwherter and Irvin were SWP vets and Chuck Smith who was a POW
made it to the Philippines to fly combat in P-38s before VJ-Day.

Jack, would you happen to have any contact info for Steve Blake? Robbie had given me his email but it's not any good. Also, does anyone have any info on what the squadron patch looked like for the 382nd? I can't seen to find it anywhere.

Jason,
Great photos - the pilot with the bandaged finger, who is sitting on his P-51, is my father - Robert E. "Sam" Proctor. He just turned 90 and still talks the most excitedly about his flying days. We do have some photos of the group, which we will try to get scanned and posted for sharing.
Thanks- it's nice to find more about the 9thAF, the 363rd specifically.

Did anyone see 'Dogfight' last night? It detailed the massive dogfight over Holland on 1 Jan 1945. It was a fantastic show. (8) P-47s of the 366th and (12) P-51s "Blue-nosed ba$tards" of the 352nd shot down over 24 German fighters in less than an hour. The Americans only suffered one P-47 loss.

This was the German operation 'Bodenplatte'. It was a great show and I highly suggest watching it.

Best,

Smiz

Blue Noser Don Bryan's Little One III, P-51 was destroyed on the ground, so not shot down, but destroyed.
