Ok WIXer's - Ric Gillespie is on Warbird Radio LIVE - Monday. Find out about the P-38 and the TBD-1 recovery. And oh yeah...his upcoming expedition (May 2010) for Amelia's DNA. Should be an interesting show...

As always...thanks for all your help!

The only thing they accomplish is recovering cash from gullible peoples wallets...

Can someone explain to me why this group gets bashed? I must have missed something?

They have a long history of sensational statements of discovery based upon extraordinarily thin evidence. Lots of talk, and very little substance. They've spent the better part of 25 years chasing Amelia Earhart. Each trip they take they claim to have found evidence of her last resting place, or bits of her plane... like an old shoe, or piece of aluminium skin with no identifyable rivet pattern.... which could have come from almost anyone, or anything. Yet these pieces were heralded as positive proof of their discoveries. Still, perhaps they will reveal something worthwhile this time around. I'm not holding my breath though...

Just a quick FYI...this will be an "objective" interview. Several of you have requested I have them on the show...several have said stop the interview. I realize opinions are strong here... If you have a question or comment for Ric call in or send over a PM/Email. Just try and keep it somewhat civilized :?

My sincere thanks to all of you for your support. Talk to you Monday (now it's airport time).

I will "Try" to keep an open mind, as long as the interview doesn't drift into UFO's or alien abductions and sticks with Warbirds...I'm good with that! (no ice road truckers or loggers either  )
They do have a passion and dig into history, thus help keeping it alive.....some of their methodology and PR hype I could do without, but at least they are out there.

The Col. called me on my way to work today and explained a few things about them. Thanks Rob. Sad to hear that someone in the warbird world acting "fishy". But keeping an open mind here.

Thank you,
Nathan :)

Nathan, one has to admire Tighar for their ability to get the public to fund many trips or expeditions over the years. I don't think they have ever published any accounting of their fundraising or spending.
They have come up with some interesting theories, but their facts are suspect. For instance they claim to have found a woman's shoe that likely was Amelia's. But this shoe was a size 9 and she had small feet as evidenced by the shoes in her museum in Kansas, so I am told,by Jeff Ethel. As for the aluminum box that was found that was supposed to be so rare and just like the one in her plane, it is also like the one in hundreds of PBYs that were all over those islands during the war.
As for as I know, Tighar has never found any real provable factual evidence of any of thesemissing planes or lost people.
To paraphrase an old saying in Texas, ("all hat and no cattle") I would say Tighar, in aviation language, is all spinner and no prop.

In our house it's "all thrust...no vector".

Yes, please ask Mr. Gillespie if TIGHAR has ever recovered an aircraft anywhere. Thanks.

I think the permit was only valid for 12 months so has therefore expired.
