Re: Tom O'Reilly F4U-5 Restoration

Good day,

I have found an article published in a french magazine issued in September 2008 talking about 122179. The airframe is now located at Lons le Saulnier (east of France). Its rebuilt is in progress as you could see on the picture enlisted (the picture is dated from May 2008).

The other -5 that SPang is talking about may be 124541. She comes from Argentina, and she has been rebuilt 10 years ago to the F4U-7 standard. The Corsair was painted as -7 133704. She has been sold to 3 germans by the end of 2009 and she is now based at Bremgarten. It is most probable that she would be repaint in Argentina Armada colors, eventough she will retain her -7 modifications.

Hi Alu,

Thanks for the pics.

The -7 leave the France and only 2 Corsair stay in France now. :(

Cheers

Hello,

http://aviation-ancienne.forumactif.com ... 33-135.htm

This link goes to a french forum, with a subject about the french FW-190, first test flights in summer 2009. On some pictures, in the background, you can see the Corsair of Lons le Saunier in restoration. It shows that progress have been done.

(The FW190 and the Corsair don't have the same owner, the FW-190 was based in the same airport only during the first test flights, to use a longer runway. Its real home base is Dijon Darois)

F4U-Buno 122179 Folks:

With the due apologies but it now appears that the real Buno 122179 is located somewhere else in France and its restoration has a few years to go. Photo Michel Duparet.

p.s The poss 122179 is in the background of the FW-190. Restoration pics of this bird are a bit rare. The -5 fuselage shown before belongs to Buno 124724 an x FAH 600. F-AZEG.
