They wanted the pilot there to hand him a bill for the recovery and a fine from the EPA for the pollution it has caused over the last 60 years!

I had the same problem when opening the link at first...there is a video box on the top right when the page opens.

Great job everyone that was involved!

I can't wait to hear about the aircraft history when we get the Buno.

Well a great day with A&T recovery at Waukegan Harbor. Lots of press, Turner CEO of Enterprise and Hunter Brawley - grandson of Elcok who ditched this Hellcat.

Confirmation it is 25910 - no real doubt.

A few more interesting things for Jack

Remains of the emblem of VF-38

It was coded White 2 on the engine cowling.

Side numbers are confusing

White 135 (very high) of 13 and 5 is another option! Jack will think 5 is interesting!

Also DF on a separate line to 135 - what does this mean?

Wings folded like a beaut and were then unbolted.

Besides the dreaded mussels - seemed in great condition.

Thanks again to Taras (who I know will read this!) Get some sleep and great to meet you.

regards

Mark

Still can't post on this site and about to catch a plane - Look at Flypast site shortly!

I hope everyone realizes how rare this wonderful spectacle is. I don't thinks there's another F6F anywhere else on the face of the planet waiting to be recovered in this fashion. An astounding thing of beauty!!

So, I suppose this might be the next ultra rare example in line? (July 2009 article)
