I wondered if you could help me? I am looking for photos of Corsairs with pin-up nose art. It seems there weren't too many. So far I've found the famous "Marine's Dream" and this unnamed machine: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v730/ ... edited.jpg (photo credit: Jack Cook). Were there any others?

Thanks!

Ronnie

There weren't many Navy fighters (or aircraft overall) with nose art as it was very heavily frowned upon by the US Navy. Add to that that pilots typically only got a plane in name, they were much less apt to have an "attachment" to an airframe like the European Theater pilots did.

It is true that Naval and Marine Corps aircraft did not have an over abundance of nose art as compared to the 8th Air Force
in Europe. And it is also true the pilots and crew usually took what ever aircraft were available, but these services did have
more “nose art” than most believe.
I have been researching data for a book on US Navy Nose Art and Special Marking and have complied a large data base of such
nose art. The following is a list of Corsairs with “pinups”:

Thanks for asking, Owen. The publisher we were working with is out of business. So, the project is on hold until we find a publisher. Will let you know if anything new developes

Roger that, a chapter on the following; Privateers, Liberators, Venturas, Catalinas and VF (fighters) all from WW II. Also, a section on the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, and Desert Storm to the present. Thanks for the interest, still looking for publisher. Cheers Bill
