Update Nov 7, 09:
Made the seat repair patches over the last couple evenings, Finally riveted them into place today. The idea worked great and it is as strong as ever. Going to continue to make more parts today. Here are some pictures.

Certainly watching this restoration of another Yale with interest. Nice work on the restoration to date and keep those updates coming.

What did you use to blast the seat clean with? what psi?
Just curious because I am thinking about investing in a soda blast machine..

I used glass Bead at about 20 PSI out of the gun, main trick is to not stay in the same place and keep about 1 foot off of the work surface so you don't heat or distort the aluminum. It took me most part of the day to get the seat cleaned to my liking.

Hi Fellas. I just happened to notice a comment on page one about the Yale and BT-14 having the same wing. Not a chance! The Yale had a wing very reminiscent in planform to the Harvard Mk I/ BC-1 while the BT-14 had one that was much closer to the AT-6 family. I'll dig out the photographic proof as soon as I can.

Thank you Doug! I always knew that was the case, but I couldn't find a BT-14 photo that could back it up.
Say, do you think the NMUSAF would swap Harvard/T-6 wings for the wings off their Yale?
you know, to make it more authentic... That would sure be handy in my case!

RCAF_100....in my estimation, it's worth a try. I badgered them unmercifully a lot of years ago about the Yale display (as did fellow Wixer Steve Tournay) being called a BT-14. They said that since it was only for display purposes, it was acceptable..........hmmmmm

Heck, maybe they'll even trade a Wasp Jr for the Whirlwind!
Sounds like something I'll have to work on... I'm probably guessing that they'll want to 'preserve the integrity' of the airplane and say no, but you never know.

Update Nov. 18 2009:
Finished making the parts for the shoulder harness latch lock. All that is left to do is a little welding on it and that part is done. Also made the plates that go between the seat rail mounting brackets and seat.

Seat looks great Patrick. What's the seat/interior color going to be?
I'll have to try the 20 psi blasting. There's no way I could get mine that clean by stripping unless I drilled it into pieces, which I really don't want to do. I've done some checking on the soda blasting, but with the exception of the very small units they seem unaffordable, unless I can find a shop locally that has the equipment.
