Hub Zemke lost a wing flying a P-51 in a thunderstorm while flying for the 479th FG, which is how he ended up in Stalag Luft I.

Similarly, I recall reading about the 357th, and they were all grounded at one point after some motor mount failures. They all got new mounts or at least new bolts, IIRC.
