I have often wondered myself what a Whirlwind with good reliable engines would have done early in the war. The MB.5 is incredible too.

I'm glad someone mentioned these. the Jetliner and Arrow are my two all-time favourite "what-ifs". Although the Arrow had phenomenal potential, I think the Jetliner was the greater loss. Production of the Jetliner could have laid the groundwork for generations of civilian passenger Jetliners, and would have allowed Avro to continue to survive and thrive after the cancellation of the Arrow.
