P-47 Photo Request (Jack?)

Tue Oct 20, 2009 1:40 am

Hi all,

I'm working on a model of a P-47D Razorback, and looking for a clear WWII pic of the underside of a camouflaged Jug that shows the exhaust/oil streak and other weathering patterns.

Thanks!

Steve -

Here's a couple of detail pics from my painting, "Eagles of Thunder". I consulted many wartime pics to get those unique patterns. Notice in particular the oil streaks near the supercharger exhaust.

The bottom pic is an "in progress" handheld shot:

Thx! I also meant to point out that the inner (smaller) gear door "seemed" to be always near-black in photos due to it's close proximity (when open) relative to the waste gate/engine exhaust ...

Are you doing an 8th AF bird?

Yep..Gerald Johnson's "In The Mood." Aside from the nekkid redhead artwork, I was also interested in the aircraft because it carries the inscription "Jackson County, Michigan, Fighter." I live in in the county next door, and grew up in Hillsdale County, which borders Jackson County on the south.

I noticed that the inner gear door is pretty dark, but wasn't sure how much of that could be attributed to shadow and how much was grunge.
