This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Here is a photo of a puzzle I played with as a child. It probably dates from the mid to late 1960s.
Anyone else have any toys from their childhood that may have influenced their appreciation of aviation?
By the way, my 3 year old son is the proud owner of this now!

That puzzle brings back memories of seeing the real deal when I was a kid. The F-100s put on a great show.......
Here is a vertical fin from a Revell B-24 that a relative of mine gave me when I was a little guy. This was the very first airplane model I ever built. I guess I thought you had to use all the decals on the sheet! Notice that I wanted a PB4Y-1 after a while and "repainted" blue over the olive drab.

The B-25 is from the old
Hornet Doolittle Raid model, probably the first or second ship model I ever put together. Man, I still remember bulding both of those kits like it was yesterday instead of over 40 years ago.

Brings back memories here, too. I remember seeing them at Andrews in the 60's. (Don't ask me what year.) That was back in the day when you could park within about 100 yds of the taxiways there. I remember going there in the 'Vette and watching with the top down.

I have a couple of things laying around here...the rest are boxed away someplace.
Model parts..anyone need a 1:48 scale Little Boy? complete with partial B-29 rack? This is all that's left of a Monogram B-29 kit from sometime before 1978...
And a T-6 model (Testors I think) that I made for my dad when I was around 12 or so. I had a stand and everything.
And A CAF window decal from @ 1978 as well.

Didn't play with it, but certainly saw it fly out of Chino. Then saw it going together after the first crash, then saw it after the fatal (to a Chino cow) crash.

Cow crash?

That had to be a mess. What happened? Cow on the runway?

Nope, the cow was exactly where she was supposed to be.

My first Thunderbird memories were the F-4s, and that was pretty dang awesome, but from what I hear the F-100 era was probably the best from a "viewing experience" standpoint ...

First thing I thought of.

And the second is... that kid's camera is WAY better than mine is.

Fortunately, the lens for that camera match up with my wife's camera and not mine. So I don't have to endure the constant, I want the telephoto, I want the macro, can I have the wide angle, can I have the telephoto back.....and on and on. He has taken awards at a couple photo competitions so we do encourage him as best we can.
