Remember, Nomex is not fire proof. It is designed to give the wearer time to get away from the fire. If it is soaked with oil or gas it will burn just as well. The fire resistant treatment also wears out after a while after many washings.

Get well soon, Terry!

The fire resistant treatment also wears out after a while after many washings. The surplus Nomex flight suit you're wearing may be useless.

Get well soon, Terry!

Nomex is also designed not to melt into the skin as polyesters and other synthetic fibers can.

God speed to a quick recovery.

Bluehawk15 asked me to post these for him. They are some pictures of the TBM in happier times here in TX.

Hope he's on an upswing from his accident. While on the topic, does anybody know what the story is with Tom Duffy and his aircraft? It seems he's fallen off the map in the past few years with flying his aircraft to shows and what not. Hope he's just trying to allocate funds maybe for his collection or for Terry.

Chris,

I took a quick look at my 2007 & 2008 pics and it appears Duffy's planes were present at a number of air shows including Geneseo, Thunder Over Michigan, Reading WWII Days, a small air show in New Garden PA. I assume he was a force behind the 2008 Millville NJ air show. He was pretty active prior to the TBM fire.

I heard from Terry's wife about a month ago, and he seemed to be doing really well. He was at home, and doing well with his rehab. He has a wonderful family who've been incredibly supportive.

I was told at the time of the accident that Terry hadn't done the annuals on the other aircraft, and all the other mechanics that would be called in to help out were busy readying aircraft for the 2009 airshow season. I think that with Terry's continued recovery, we hopefully can expect to see Mr. Duffy's aircraft with a higher presence next year.

In general, airshows did not book many warbirds this year. Let's hope that changes next year.

Rich
