Hmmmm......Tom Reilly did point to a pile of bent metal and mentioned that it came from a wreck in Alaska. He's using it for a number of parts and patterns.

I don't think that would be an issue. During World War One, Springfield continued to pay the royalties due Mauser Werk AG for the patent on the Mauser 93 receiver that the Springfield M-1903 was based on.

I'd guess there was post-war pressure to buy American, especially with Allison being owned by GM at the time.

The version I heard was that after years of development the Allison had finally been "perfected," and since the US Gov't had given the engine considerable financial backing, they wanted a return on their investment.

The P-82 parts in Ft. Collins were sitting at the end of the field long before the LB-30 arrived. Anyone else but me see all the B-17 parts around that area?
