I have the same photo, my uncle is the tall guy second from the right. I appreciate all the info.
Can you post a link to the site? I'd like to see what all is on there. I did have a Geocities site about the B-29 and crew (with this photo), so it would've been nice if I had received an email asking if it was ok to use this or any of the other photos. I'm like everyone else, I just want to be asked to use something, I usually say yes.

Crew photo was found here. If you surf around you will find two more images; though since I can't read Japanese I am unsure if they are Werewolf.

The funnel thingy looks like a crude oxygen mask. Maybe from the japanese fighter pilot that attacked the B-29? Looks like an ear piece as well with the thick hose attachement for sound.

Those leather wrapped items are from nothing on a B-29 that I am aware of.

In the link photo you can see the thick hose going up to his headseat.., matches the outlet in the original photos. Pima has a complete Japanese fighter pilot in its collection. I bet they could shine a light on this mixed up mystery.

This thread is really interesting.

On the crash photo of the vertical fin on the Kuushuu website, it does look like A Square ?8. Definitely two digits and probably ending in 8. I had to scroll to the right to see it with my monitor...

I hear you! I constantly find sites and tributes with the images 'scabbed' from my website. I would give them a higher resolution copy if they asked of course.., but it still would be nice to have been contacted.

That looks like an official US Government photo. IF it is, then it is public property. You only have to give permission if you are the original photographer, and not a Government employee.
