Most beautiful......... Great work Dave! Glad to see "Chief" on duty as well as Rick and your volunteers....... can't wait to see her turning that new engine! Great job..... that chromed hub sparkles like a just polished diamond! Alan

The amazing thing about the prop dome is it's polished, not chrome! Gonna need some volunteers to keepum looking that way!

Yeah when I commented that there might be oil thrown around Dave's response was "VOLUNTEERS"

Alan if you don't watch it Dave might find something even grimer for you to do! :D

The pictures don't do the props and domes justice either!

Mark and Dave work together to get the stubborn exhaust on to the engine. Notice how the exhaust is all aft now. That makes all the cylinders tie into one ring. Woo what a job!

Here Mark gives a little persuasion with a plastic mallet. Careful now! We will have no dents in the new manifold!

Ok Dave, time to check the prop feather pump and the new prop. Ready? Start the feather pump. Rick will be watching to make sure nothing overheats or goes wrong.

Woo hoo! The prop is feathered! Great job! Unfortunately following this test, the feather pump gave out and it had to be replaced. Two steps forward and one step back. Ah, such is the life in the squadron. But now it is replaced and works wonderfully again, thanks to many loving hours of labor from our wonderful volunteers. :D

The new engine on FIFI was run on the aircraft today with the big prop. Dave got to do the first start and he smiled a lot. B29 engineer did the following runs. Yours truly guarded the brakes and shouted orders. Nelson Ezell observed in the cockpit and provided expert advise. Some minor prop adjustments were required and then the engine put out the torque, RPM and h.p. numbers we were looking for. I'm sure Dave will post some pix and give his report later.

One down and three to go!!

This is by far the biggest milestone we have met and with flying colors. The numbers that Charlie spoke of are dead on what he and Nelson and Gary had worked on and worked out from the beginning. I am so happy that they were here to see it come to life and see what they had envisioned, work out the way it did!!!
Thanks for all your great ideas and helping to make this happen.
