This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

It is up to each individual squadron to keep up the insurance on the aircraft. It is just that I hate to see the CAF (who I have alot of respect for) not get taken seriously at airshows because of some poor choices. Don't think this didn't happen at Oshkosh. The P-40 was there parked with 4 other P-40's. THe CAF P-40 because of it's paint, wasn't even in the same league as the others. The tramp stamps are one thing that I just can't understand. How does that help anything? We keep talking about brand recognition. Is this really an issue. We keep pointing out that the CAF has the only flying B-29. So there are no other B-29 brands to compete with. If you are thirsty in the desert you are not going to say I only want the water in a bottle that has this logo on it. THe logo is silly. I can not see anyone requesting the CAF to come to an airshow because they saw that logo, and that it just now occurred to them that the CAF owned the plane. If the CAF said "we like the logos and want them on there, I would accept that over this crazy idea of no one knew who we were. I have the deepest respect for the CAF, I was a member of the CAF, and I thank them for starting the warbird trend. It is because I respect them that some of the crazy things they do drives me nuts.

Thanks Steve I thought my question was going to get lost in the CAF bashing again.

I am really not CAF bashing. I like the group, just have a few questions about some of the leadership decisions.

In an earlier post you state, " would accept that over this crazy idea of no one knew who we were" I can say without a doubt having been with High Sky Wing aircraft at CAF shows (with the CAF spelled out below the tail) that people did not have a clue that it was a CAF aircraft. The large logo along with the look of uniformity, IS WORKING I don't particularly like the big logo, but I can say that at least now people know that it is a CAF aircraft, and when they see a bunch of aircraft with the same logo they start to realize who big the organization is!
I know of at least one member who was recruited at a show in Texas for a unit in Georgia after he made the comment that he wishes there was something this big in his area, then we told him about DIXIE WING. He became a member on the spot.

While I might not agree with all the choices made recently, I do not think it is good for the image of the CAF for their members to be heard in public talking about the stupid tramp stamps etc!

OK off my soap box, but I am getting sick of every thread that even mentions the CAF having the tramp stamp brought up.

CAF Tramp Stamp

Mon Aug 24, 2009 6:37 pm

I don't know that I 've ever had a good look at this CAF "tramp stamp" that everyone complains about. Can anyone come up with a link to good and clear photo of what you're all talking about?

Thanks!

5th picture this post. And Flying Sailor the stamp is working. Bad press is better than no press.

Actually, I can't possibly see it as a case of any harm done. I love the CAF for what it has done, and for what it continues to do. But as with any other "business", unless complaints are made the assumption will be that everything is hunky-dory. This particular matter is particularly sticky, and therefore the complaints continue to come in ..... and in a pretty gentle manner, actually.

The funny thing is that I actually like the logo. As in if it were on ground equipment of a hangar, it is actually pretty cool. I am just a fan of a paint job being as close to original as possible. Will the CAF ever sell the decals, like for my tool box?

I think they already do, I will check when I am down in Midland in two or three weeks.

If they do, I would gladly pay you for two of them. 8)
