Here's a quick re-cap of the action today:

First a quick rundown of what was there- 4 P-51s, 2 B-25s, AC-47, 2 DC-3s, C-123, Caribou, 9 C-130s (counting Fat Albert), Lancaster, 2 Spitfires, 2 Hurricanes, FG-1D, Hellcat, 3 Skyraiders, 2 Hueys, F-4, Mig-21, Mig-15, Mig-17, and various trainer/liaison types. I'm sure I missed something important in here somewhere, but someone will catch me.

P-51B "Old Crow" flew during the WWII battle in the morning. I think Jimmy Leeward was flying it.

The T-6 flight was very well choreographed. They kept the action completely in from of the crowd for most of the flight.

Vlado's fly-by after the Heritage Flight was probably the lowest past I've ever seen by a WWII fighter- SWEET! :D

The Victory Flight was impressive- Lancaster, 2 Spitfires (Russell Group Mk IX and VWoC MKXVI), 2 Hurricanes and VWoC P-51. They flew a couple circuits in trail formation and then tightened up to make a couple passes in "V" formation. Can't wait to see what some of you photogs got of this! Rick Volker also put on an excellent solo display in the Russell Group Spitfire.

Vietnam flight was pretty cool. The O-2s and L-19 did some spotting while two Hueys and the AC-47 circled overhead. Then the Skyraiders were called in for some low passes.

The F-4/ Mig-17 flight was the highlight of the day. They started with an opposing pass and then followed with two tail chases passes. The F-4 solo demo was incredible! It included some high speed passes, low speed, and a triple roll among other things. Easily the most impressive flying of the day, IMO. Having never seen an F-4 do those types of maneuvers, I was very impressed. Also met some great members of the Collings Foundation maintenance crew over by the F-4 who were able to share some interesting stories about the F-4 in Vietnam.

Probably the coolest moment of the show for me was when I was standing next to the taxiway, the 2 Hueys were flying past while the B-52 was passing overhead, the F-4 was preparing to taxi out and the 3 Skyraiders and O-2s were taxiing in. It was impressive seeing out on all that Vietnam hardware at once.

That's about all I got for now, I'm really too tired to go through my mediocre pics so I'll leave those to the guys with the big lenses. Wish I could go back tomorrow... I hope it's as good as today was. Great show again!

Additonally I wanted to comment that at first I wasn't too enthused about the C-130s and Blue Angels, but it ended up being a great show! Every year I keep telling myself that there's no way they can top this one, and every year they find a way to do it. Keep up the good work guys!

Great show! Unfortunately we had broken overcast most of the day, so a lot of my flying pics came out as dark silhouettes against a gray sky (and my crappy camera kept refusing to focus on them anyway..especially the fast movers.) I'll post the best of what I got tomorrow.

The Victory Flight was great..I've seen the Lanc in flight a few times, but seeing her with Spits and Hurris was fantastic. Too bad the 109 couldn't make it..I hope they string Russell's neighbor up from his own flagpole!

I was slightly annoyed that the BUFF only made one pass..but it was still cool to see up close.

I've gotta agree about the Collings F-4..it had been at least ten years since I last saw a Phantom fly, and I don't think I've ever seen one wrung out like that! I was expecting a few flybys and maybe a slow roll or two, but they put on a very dynamic routine.

The clouds forced the Blues to do their low show, and the dark blue planes look black in almost all my pics. The last couple times I've seen the Fat Albert routine, they haven't used the JATOs..do they not do that anymore?

Anyway, I hope those who attend tomorrow have better weather than we did today. One thing that surprised me, it seemed like the crowd line was much closer to the action than usual..not that I'm complaining!

Great day, and since the airshow has been covered, I'll just add the "peripherals". Was really nice seeing and shooting with Bill, Roger Cain, Eric and Berni, Frank and John (WIX lurkers I think), Dave Brown, Darius, and Parr.

I don't know if I shot any aircraft today, the after-show photos are all that seem to be sticking in my brain tonight....

Enjoy tomorrow all!

Wow..you had better luck than me. Every time I tried to get pics on the ramp, some fat redneck would wander into the shot and stand there scratching his butt.

IIRC the Blues have almost exhausted their supply of JATO bottles and so FA is only using them for a few select shows this season.

I feel your pain Tom, missed this year too due to no cash and the stupid passport requirement to enter the US.

Let the images roll :D

I think you're just avoiding me! :)

Really sorry to hear that you couldn't make it (Tom too). Next time, just have Parr sneak you across in the back of his SUV!

Thanks for the compliment! I'll let the four Harvard pilots know you enjoyed it.

BTW, does anyone have a pic(s) of Harvard AJ583/C-FHWX (the one with the big 46 on it) taxiing in on Friday?
I was the guy in the backseat :D
