Writting on this board does no good.

Write your letters now and send them in, if you want I will buy the stamp.

Some points why the recovery is so important:

The American population can see for real one of the machines built by the “Greatest generation” that protected America’s and the world’s freedom.

The airplane will be protected, preserved, and presented to the American public as long as there is an America.

The airplane is being destroyed on the bottom of Lake Michigan through corrosion and attack by the environment; marine life and water.

If you have trouble writting a letter call me, I will help you.

There has to be support for this. If there is no support, these recoveries might not happen. If the public shows that they have a care about them, and show support for the NMNA then things will be easier. Just how I see it.

In that case, I want to say I am all for the recovery of all of the WWII wrecks that are able to be recovered. Particularly combat veteran aircraft and examples of types that there are only a handful or less in existence. I and many others hold the sacrifices that our parents and grandparents made in the name of our country. Their tools of war will be all we have left to help remember them someday. Together with their stories, these pieces of equipment are invaluable for letting their legacy live on in the hearts and minds of our youth.

Well said, Django!

I whole heartedly agree...please, let's get those planes out of the water and into public museums where they can be displayed along with their histories, and the stories of the men and women who designed them, made them, flew them, and rescued and preserved them.

Glad to hear of this new direction.

I'll put something together and get it in the mail ASAP!

I was very excited to see recoveries start up again and I don't want to see them stop until the lake bottom is empty!

As someone who freely bashed NHC policies on this board, I have to admit I'm glad to see recoveries resume. I'll be exstatic when PRIVATE INDIVIDUALS are allowed to recover the aircraft (using approved companies like A&T, or approved methods) and allowed to restore them to FLY again if they so choose.

Mr. Buddy Macon
National Naval Aviation Museum
1750 Radford Blvd, Suite C
Pensacola, FL. 32508

Ref: F6F-3 Hellcat Bureau Number 25910 recovery, restoration, and presentation to the American people project, National Historic Preservation Act Section 106 public comment.

Dear Mr. Macon:

For the past 22 years I have worked on the recovery portion of the project to present, to the American public, what had been lost Navy World War II history. This history is found in the form of airplanes resting on the bottom of Lake Michigan as a result of mishaps from the aircraft carrier qualification training conducted on the lake during the early through mid 1940’s. F6F-3 Hellcat Bureau Number 25910 is one of these airplanes now scheduled for recovery, restoration, and presentation to the American public.

Having been in such an active part of the operation my prospective is in all likelihood one few others have. Although, I have made money from the effort that is of little value compared to I what know has really been gained from my efforts. From every recovery the history of the men and women who brought America through the darkest of times is re-discovered. Americans are able to see an actual machine which protected their freedom. Many of the pilots who flew the airplanes are found and their stories collected, presentations are made to a public that has almost forgotten what made America such a great land, and a most important part of our history that is no longer taught in our schools is once again brought forth.

Not recovering F6F-3 Hellcat Bureau Number 25910 would have a severe adverse impact to the people of the United States of America. Not recovering F6F-3 Hellcat Bureau Number 25910 would deny the “Greatest,” the present, and all the future generations of our country the ability to actually see and be part of one of the most significant machines of “peace” ever built by American sweat, blood, and ingenuity. Not recovering F6F-3 Hellcat Bureau Number 25910 would smother the energy of so many people, all across America, involved to bring home, bring forth, and present this wondrous piece of our history to our country.

Archeological studies, photographs, and/or History Channel films cannot mitigate the adverse impact to the people of United States of America from not recovering F6F-3 Hellcat Bureau Number 25910. Therefore, F6F-3 Hellcat Bureau Number 25910 must be recovered, restored, and presented to the American public.

Thank you for your time, efforts, and consideration.

Sincerely,

Taras

Amen to that Taras!. The Hellcat was one of the most important fighters of the Pacific War, and very few survive today to remind people of the exploits of the pilots who flew them with such heroism - and more than just a little success. With this machine a possible combat veteran as well, it is even more significant and an historical treasure - raise it now, before it is lost forever.

It is interesting to me that the thread about the Helldiver has 60 odd
posts. This one, where WIXers can actually influence recoveries has
less than 30. For years and years WIXers and the Warbird community
railed about the navy's policy of not recovering the birds from L. Michigan.
Now they are doing so again and asking for public support to raise a Hellcat
from Michigan waters.

What is the problem? You are getting what you asked for. There should
be a thousand letters generated from the wonderful change an policy and
what it means to warbird enthuiasts everywhere.

When I was a child there were no SBDs to see. The plane that broke the
back of the Japanese navy at Midway just wasn't around anymore. Now they
are almost common in major museums across the country. The USN
did this guys. WE NEED to support their efforts not and write letters.
When people were mad about recoveries being halted, they wrote letters.
Come on....WRITE A LETTER IN SUPPORT!!! hOW TOUGH IS THAT??
