I started hitting the books again today since I've got some free time here in Santa Rosa, NM.
I am still trying to figure out how many PV-2s are still with us...Going thru the WIX Registry, I have found a few answers out to the whereabouts of some of these birds, and still left holding the bag on some others...
Have found 29 aircraft, although 2 of these haven't been identified..

#2 The Harpoon in Branson, Mo. oh, almost forgot , was told it's a Hudson........whatever..

Would like to find out any info on the PV-2's in Jerome, Id...N7261C Bu no 37107...Pictures PLEASE! And info on N7249C #37171 49C is listed in the registry as belonging to Niel Rose, Vancouver, WA....But I photographed it in Jerome 2007

Another mystery ship is N7253C #37184 last listed as Dawson Aviation Glen Dive, MT 1988...

Next...N7224C #37267....last listed Ben Jones Miami, FL

N7434C #37364 F.J. Perillo Tucson, Az

N7486C #37419 Quarry Products Richmond, Ca.

N6859C #37457 Ben Whitney Calexico, Ca

N6854C #37498 " " " " "

N6651D #37357 S.I. Verschoot Richey, Mt/ Glen Dive, Mt

N7415C #84064 " " " " " " " " "

I would like to confirm the PV-2 in Beaverton, Or. "Rosies Raiders" Jack Erickson...Pics (recent) and an update would be nice

As an update... the PV listed in Fairbanks Ak is in Middletown, Ca....

Erickson's PV-2D is at Tillamook and hasn't flown in years.
It was restored by Neil Rose and formly flew out of Pearson Field.

The Colorado Springs group had a C-60 Lodestar that they had a takeoff incident with a few years back. Could that be the one you're thinking of Gary?

I dunno if this helps or not, but the former CAF bird that crashed at Airsho '04 was:

Lockheed 18-56, N6371C

Gary,

I was last in Calexico a couple of years ago. I drove extensively around the area, I asked questions to Spanish and English speaking people, regarding any old, dilapidated, junked or abandoned airplanes.

Basically, nothing came up. I visited the Calexico airport, and unless the airplanes are broken up in small parts for storage and inside a hangar, nothing was visible at the airport. BTW the airport only has a couple of hangars.

This of course leaves the possibility that the owner lives in the area, and may have them somewhere in his property.

Saludos,

Tulio

Gary....Thanks for the s/n on the C-60

Robbie...the Myrtle Beach Harpoon is N72707 #37492

Tulio...I stopped in Calexico, and all the surrounding airports out there about a year and a half ago....no dice on the Harpoons. I believe what is left of them is at Carl Scholl's place not too far , in Borrego Springs.

I spoke with Ramona Bill, the caretaker on Carl's place, he told me that a couple of years back, he and Carl drove to Calexico, and picked up a trailer load of Harpoon parts....I noticed the wings there at B.S., and there are probably a lot of other parts there from that mission.

More than likely, the parts and wings came from N6859C and N6854C, but until I can get confirmation...it's just a W.A.G.....I keep forgetting to ask Carl.....OK Pooner, your turn to bug Carl!

Gary, my dad purchased a BT-13 in January 1990 from a gentleman in Colorado Springs named Whitey Wannamaker (sp?). Wannamaker had some other types....possibly a Harpoon. My dad did not see it, though his partner did. It may have been in a tri-color scheme. Maybe this is the a/c you're looking for...

Gary, I'll give Carl the old "Spanish Inquisition" on the fate of the Cal-Mex birds and provide an update. (That's my version of buying him lunch at the taco place down the street, getting a beer or two in him, and asking him the same darn questions over and over again until he gets disgusted with me and shakes his head as if he's talking to a complete idiot).
Say, my buddy and fellow desert rat down this way Matt G. made a reference on time I think 'bout being down 'round the border and seeing a R-2800 PV engine built into a fence or a wall or something... and I can't help but wonder if any of the Calexico stuff is somehow related.

Maybe if Matt's feeling a little up to it he could spill the beans (or at least tell me I am havin' a little heat stroke spell and conjuring up a story that never was... it is 106 right now in PHX and I just got out of the hangar wrenching on 57C... 114 in there.... yuck!).

Dante,
I ran into Whitey's son in Cleveland, Oh a couple of months ago quite by accident....Was making a delivery, and had on my PV-2 hat, He didn't know much about the PV, but did know that it was PV-2...Evidently, his father had divorced his mother, moved to Colo, and remarried....Said he used to spend time in Co. with his dad and did a lot of flying with him in a T-6..
Gary

Hmmmm?? Matt G.....could it be the same Matt I am thinking of? Yes, sqeese the info out of him!

Yes, The Spanish Inquisition! Ha! Why didn't I think of that? By the way, a little birdy landed on my window sill, and told me that Mr T. Savage had aquired the remains of the Calexico birds! That one's solved, actually two solved...

Rob, next time you go over to Packards, ask about the PV that they lost in Mexico....N-number, tanker number, year of crash, where in Mexico...
