I'm sure interested! Thanks for the link, I can hardly wait until this movie comes out! It looks like they made a pretty decent effort to get a lot of the details right.
In this picture, it is entitled, "laminate P-40":
Questions:
1) Are those drop tanks real or just Hollywood fakes?
2) That "laminate" P-40 looks pretty convincing, but the tires look out of place. I don't ever recall seeing "knobby" tire treads like that before on a warbird. Shouldn't it have been a "diamond tread" pattern instead? All in all, though, I think it will "pass muster", since it will probably only be in the background shots, where people won't notice the details being slightly off.
3) Anyone know how many of these "laminate" P-40's were made for the movie? Any details on how they were made, which P-40 they were patterned off of, etc.?

The mould was taken from the RAF Museums P40.

It's a shame they didn't use a couple of "real" Luftwaffe birds for the flight sequences as well. Still, it's another big-budget WW2 aviation flick, so I can't complain!

I like the mud-slinger tires on the P-40 there. They look good for mucking about.
And I'm curious to know what's up with so many different airplane types and paint schemes, how they planned on doing their shots. I'm guessing a lot of CG (cringe). Kind of like the Pearl Harbour with really weird flights of Japanese fighters. I suppose they will only be doing close shots, with no airfield wide stuff without the aid of heave CG'ing.
I look forward to seeing it, and seeing how they portray the story.

Looks like that last P-40 shot with the massive rig on the undercarriage is for "taxing" shots with the actors in the cockpit.
Also, I noticed the details in the ground mechanic's film sets.
Some info on this...at the Gathering of Mustangs in 2007, there were a bunch of guys from Lucasfilms at the show checking things out. The Airmen's Preservation Society display near the tower featured WWII mechanics and ground crew equipment. The guys from Lucas went nuts and took over 500 photos of the equipment and stuff on display to use as reference for what they wanted the film to look like. It appears they paid attention to detail!

Cuba Gooding Jr is in both Red Tails and Tuskegee Airman? Interesting! Less studyin for Jr I suppose.

From the looks of things, it SHOULD be a good movie, if they don't "Hollywood" it up too much.....I know, that is a big IF!
