P-40 hulks at chino?

Does anyone know if there are any P-40N hulks from PNG at MARC or anywhere else at chino ?

Reminds me ... back in '90 or '91, my father and I visited Planes of Fame, and walked around the airport afterwards. We came upon a hangar full of several guys manufacturing full-scale fiberglass mockups of P-40s.

Wildly guessing here, but I'm assuming it was Tallichet's outfit, possibly making the mockups for George Lucas. That was around the FIRST time he said he was making a Red Tails movie.

If anyone knows the real story, I'd like to hear it. Curiosity's been killing me all these years ...

As I recall, right around that time (early 90's) Warner Bros was ramping up production on a Flying Tigers movie that got pretty far -- costumes being made, sets constructed (in Mexico I believe), etc -- before they pulled the plug. If we get the whole story, my guess is that is part of it.

Do you know when that was last updated?Air heritage in beaver falls had two of them at one time.I traded Dave for one of them(A fuselage)and the other went to ohio is my guess.As far as any projects for sale thats a tough one.

Try the top listing for a "project". It's probably as good as you're going to get now, considering. And there were the three "projects" that have been for sale for quite a while now, at varying prices. They are basically good for the data plates and small parts, but I guess it counts. With the abundance of P-40 restorations going on right now, I'd bet that they could be airplanes in relatively decent time, given the right amount of cash.

Never knew that Air Heritage had two. As far as I know about the Tallichet PNG P-40 recoveries that were exported to the U.S.:

1. One went to Air Heritage then to MAPS in Ohio, then Pima where it is in storage.
2. One went to hang.
3. One went to Graham Orphan then was sold back to the US I think.
4. One is now flying with John Fallis.
5. One was statically restored and traded to the RAF Museum.

Anyone account for more? Just how many did Tallichet bring to the U.S?

There were two airframes in Hawkins, Texas back in the mid-90's. Both have since been relocated elsewhere though.

Yes.It is now owned by Alex Rangel and is under slow rebuild while collecting parts.The first P-40 looks to be the one that John Fallos has because the one at Air heritage was not in that good of shape.Another was "burned up" in a hangar fire in barstow in the 80s from what I remember.

And I heard another was "stolen" from Barstow as well. Lifted over the fence with a crane?
