which I called un-neccessary "showing off" by the pilot/RAF

Reading this just wondered how many of the people making comments here actually FLY aeroplanes and have displayed?

Mod Post - Everyone can use their 'superior skills' not to get into an unprofessional argument. Keep it polite, professional, factual.

Thanks

Mark..saw your post before it was deleted;

What concerns me is that you repeated an unverified YouTube 'comment' about a certain pilot because it fitted in with your idea of 'showing-off'...and yet you have no flying experience.

Ian, the comment is in the public domain by its author on the youtube site, I copied it here along with a link to the youtube video it was commenting on, where anyone could view the footage and all the comments and make their own conclusions, and yes both it and the video link was placed to support my contention or opinion in a debate? as were the other links.

I did'nt identify the pilot by name - neither did the author of that youtube comment despite their claim they knew him-- (I dont care or know who the pilot was), and I didnt claim the comment to be true, just that it was an interesting comment to note.

I have an opinion, and consider I am entitled to it, and I havent seen any logical arguments to change that opinion.

I chose to delete my posts as they had apparantly offended the mods, and I dont now intend to continue this debate on that same basis.

Suffice to say I am pleased you saw my last reply, as the point I made in it answers the rest of your concern already, and therefore doesnt need repeating again here.

without offending the mods further, I am happy to continue in PM if you feel somehow agrieved and wish to continue the debate?

regards

Mark Pilkington

Good on the Mods - thanks

...those sort of comments can either give the wrong impression or confirm 'suspicions' about 'enthusiasts'...

I am amazed that that last pass didnt convert all of those ultralights into a large pile of camping gear.

A couple of clarifications:

First - my credentials. I'm a professional commentator on vintage aviation, not a pilot.

No mods were offended in the making of this thread - had I thought a deletion was required, I'd have done it or requested it.

WIX is a public forum. Comments can be taken out of context by the less knowledgeable and press to blacken vintage aviation practices.

The suggestion that only pilots / display pilots can or should comment on display flying isn't sustainable. Safety is everyone's business, within the context of constructive, factually based logical discussion - which leads to...

...watch for trolling. The opening post in this thread was, IMHO, a dubious attempt to create an argument from a perfectly normal couple of display videos. Adding a link to the nasty accident in E Europe wasn't a good way to develop the discussion. Each country currently sets their airshow safety parameters - in the west, they are, by and large, adequate to good. Certainly in the US, UK and NZ. Generalised remarks here aren't much use, looking at them constructively.

OTOH, the comment by Dudley Henriques, for instance has a lot of merit - it's quantified, specific, and from someone who knows one display context well - and is a pilot. It's also clear what he's not clear on. So the thread serves some purpose.

Just because someone dangles bait doesn't mean you have to bite. Please THINK before posting.

So JDK thinks posting about a topic showing how a domesticed-miliatrised-warbird airliner doing aerobatics is dubious, trolling, arguement seeking?

Each to their own opinion but if you cant handle a discussion, where people can discuss issues such as safe flying of large domestied passenger transports cum militarised, obviously there is no point in flying at airshows.

Been a mod - JDK - I see you failed to remove the Nazi comment ... shouldnt that be removed to as that is highly offensive to anyone reading this forum topic. I find it offensive.

JDK ain't the only one...
Those look to be relatively safe passes. It's all about directed energy. The crowd did not appear to be in danger at any time. The FAA has some pretty strict rules, but a lot of them are really based in common sense ideas that were violated at one point or another by reckless, or overconfident pilots. Also, that barely qualifies as aerobatics.

"Highly offensive to anyone"...Hardly. As to your second comment...Every cloud has it's silver lining!
