Many of us feel that the Tomcat would have been a better platform to deal with potential threats that the "all Hornets all the time".
I guess there are more than 'many' who feel otherwise.

Any aircraft can be a threat. The F-14s, though "dated" by today's pundits is still a very fast agile AC that can deliver to the target! Don't forget the Finns in WW2. Were they flying state of the art aircraft? Not Generally. They flew whatever they could get, against a much bigger Op Force. They gave the Russians quite the bloody nose! They were defending their HOME. We do not want a bloody nose, or more likely, one of their neighbors getting bloodied and dragging us in to "help"!!!

I mean are they really going to be that much of a threat? There are far more capable aircraft in this world that Iran could get easier and cheaper and would be better then the F-14. Mig 29 comes to mind. I gotta say I dont really care for the U.S. veiws of "We can do it but they can't" system. Dont we have some Mirage III's in our inventory? I don't see any otehr country trying to prevent us from obtaining parts to keep them airworthy. All I'd really like to see is to see at lest 2-3 F-14's kept flying in the USN for airshows. You know perhaps for heritage flights.

Why not the USN can afford it!
Oh boy flame suit on!

The wear of a flame suit can be avoided by actually thinking about what you type.

Regarding the post of hoping the Iranian F-14's remain flying is the 'everything that can fly should fly attitude' taken into the realm of absurdity. I hope they all wind up on poles but then again I love polesh warbirds.

You are welcome. I'd suggest you get a copy of 'Top Gun' on DVD then you can see an F-14 fly anytime you want to.

I'd rather get "Final Countdown" for a F-14 fix!

Hey good call I like Final Countdown much better than Top Gun also.

I don't know if a certain percentage should be saved, but as of right now and the foreseeable future, the only way to see one of the most famous fighters the Navy has ever flow is to go to an Iranian air show. Thats sad. Give one to the Collings Foundation to compliment their Phantom and it will surely pay for itself if you give rides in it.
Just watch those Tomcat "cruise videos" on you tube. Its enough to make you cry.

So much emotional attachment to the F-14. I think I'm going to cry.

Of course, the size of the bottle rocket up one's ass usually determines the heat of the flames one projects.

While you're at it can you cry some for me, too? I can't seem to squeeze a tear out for admiration of Haskins and concern that the F22 is going to be demilled. Next week. And shipped to China. So they can grind it up and use it to poison our children's milk.

Well I am trying to gain more interest in foreign aircraft. Be interested in knowing whats comes about with the Iran F-14s. I just wished to be able to see a variety of aircraft again. Face it we are left with few choices at airshows in the U.S. and in the same colors.
