Next week I'll be in Atlanta to record oral history interviews during the Women in Aviation, International conference at the Hyatt Regency Feb. 26-28. Will any other WIXers be there?
I'm hoping to find time one of those evenings to go have dinner at the 57th Fighter Group restaurant - has anyone been there before? Is it worth a visit?
Thanks,
Zack

David Tallichet closed the 57th a few years back. He sold it to my boss, Pat Epps shortly before David passed away. It has been used for some private functions, but is not opened to the public. I do not believe that Mr Epps has found anyone to run it for him, & that is the problem.

So the 57th FG Restaurant website is defunct? I had actually stumbled across it and was basing a visit off the site. Any other aviation-themed places to visit in Atlanta? I have already been to Warner-Robins...
Thanks,
Zack

I don't know about the Restaurant, but I'm pretty sure there is a CAF Wing at the same airport. The P-51 "Red Nose" is based there.
Mike's locator should have even more info for you.

The 57th restaurant is closed. It is located at Peachtree-Dekalb Airport. There is another good place to go at PDK called the Downwind. It is located in the airport admin building. Liberty Belle is flying out of PDK this weekend. I do not know if Red Nose is there or not. Red Nose is based at Falcon Field in Peachtree City with The Dixie Wing CAF. That is south of Atlanta.
Zach, I wish I had time to meet up with you, but my wife & I took a real bad Lightening Strike last Wednesday night. We have a lot of damage to our house, it killed the computers in our Crown Vic HPP auto. The house is covered but my hot rod undercover looking car is not. It knocked crap out of me, as I was standing outside when it hit. (I thought the worst was over--famous last words huh) We pretty well have our hands full trying to get things squared back away, so I don't have any free time right now. Hope you have a good visit to Atlanta.

Yikes! Lightning strikes are bad news. Problems can keep popping up for months , so try to find everything before you settle with the insurance company. Anything electronic, anything with metal in it connected to the house, plumbing, fixtures, all kind of things can get whacked when millions of volts surge through and around them! At least it didn't burn you down or hurt you.

There is the B-29 "Sweet Eloise" (ex-Marilyn Gay war vet) at the Cobb Parkway gate of Dobbins ARB in Marrieta. Not sure if there is public access anymore but it is easily seen, sitting right next to Cobb Parkway.
I agree that the CAF Dixiewing would be worth a visit. Peachtree City is about 35 miles south of Downtown Atlanta.
