The Chino Super Corsair racer had about 4 feet cut off of each wing. There is also a bearing that tends to spin and sieze the engine that requires a dowel for racing at substantially above rated power. It also had a large spinner, a tighter cowling, huge wing fillets, different oil coolers and oil coller inlets/exhausts and spraybars for the engine cylinders and oil coolers which Odegaard's airplane does not AFAIK. The early Skyraider Aeroproducts prop was worth a few MPH as well. The Chino Super Corsair did a 445+ race average in 1988. Standing at the pylons and listening about 10 seconds after the Super Corsair passed it sounded like a tornado was brewing. When a Mustang passed you didn't hear much at all. The Super Corsair had to push a lot more air out of the way even in it's highly modified form.:?Sorry to stray off topic on memory lane...

BDK, one thing to remember, the Super Corsair was built out of a stock F4U, heavly modified. The F2G start out as a 4360 powered plane, different fuselage, same wings. I was at the Champlin Fighter Museum when Steve and Jim were there looking at the F2G, they were just starting to plan the Super Corsair. So I guess I could say I saw the start of the Super Corsair, and I was at Williams when it went in, so I was there at the end as well.

I wish I was involved... But I am sad to say I am not.
I see John Zayac out testing Race 37 and he always stops by after the test and says hi to me
and WIXer "jlittle2". John Z is one of the nicest guys I have ever met.
Came by one time just to say hi to my 7 year old daughter when she was with me...

But I will tell him you said Hi. I am sure he would love to see your pictures!

Most of the time... this is all I see of Race 37 and John... A few sec and then he is gone.

*** Wix member "jlittle2" knows John Z very well. He may know about the canopy glass... I will ask him.

What I really wonder is if they tape the front slider shut too and cut him out of the plane with an X-Acto after the race?

Seems kinda odd that its really wide at the front of the rear canopy :?:
Also if they are using aluminum tape that stuff leaves part of its glue behind when it comes off, very hard to clean up. Blue can you find out what kinda tape they use :?:

Steve, I contacted someone who knows John Z quite well. He might be able to find an answer. I know two of the guys that work on that aircraft. If I see them this weekend I'll ask.

Another change of subject, but this is a Reno thread. I've been trying to master some new photo processing software, and this is an image I was working with.

Here's some TEXAS Racing!
