Impressive sight! I first saw this plane as a teenager in 1982-ish at Teterboro Airport, NJ. I still have a soft spot for her - the first B-17 I saw in person. Keep up the good work!

Great work Don. Now, if you don't mind doing me a favor......please go back and install large area washers on those carb linkage rod ends. Thanks.
Gary

Gary, you beat me to it, I have not been following this thread to close lately.

Yes it is a safety feature, that even if it is not called for in the parts manual, in my book it gets one.

THANKS EVERYBODY on the encouragement and suggestions.

I hope to have photos of a "properly dressed" set of throttle and mixture linkages after this Saturday.
I just got back from putting large pattern washers on the un-caged linkage ends.
Also some OMG discoveries on #3 Engine's linkages.
So as usual, another GREAT CALL from Gary about having us paint the rusty linkages! (How did he know we would find other problems once we got into the project? He must be prescient, or a mutant... THAT'S IT!

That bearing is EXACTLY why we say to put a large area washer on rod ends. Had that failed, the washer would keep the rod attached and you would still have some control.

and yes it looks better......
