Lockheed S-3 Viking burping noise

Tue Feb 10, 2009 11:05 am

When I used to go to an RV park in Chula Vista, the Vikings would come over on approach to North Island NAS. They would make a noise that sounded almost like a burp. What was this and was this the only aircraft that made this sound?
thanks,

Was at NASNI from72-78,when the VS squadrons switched from the S2f to the s-3 it was a sad day when the round engines died. all you would here is wooop wooop

Darn airplane flying around always apologizing for something it did or was about to do, Whooops. Must be the cowling and bypass design because the A-10 doesn't make that sound but has the same engines.

The nickname "Hoover" also refers to the fact that give the chance
the a/c will suck you right up and in :!: :?
