A few years ago, I commissioned artist Stephen Mudgett to do a number of paintings of my Dad's aircraft over his Navy career:
-- An F6F-3 of VF-19 in 1944
-- An F8F-1 of VF-19 in 1947
-- An F9F-2 of VF-61 in 1951
-- An FJ-4B of VA-23 in 1959
and Stephen has those, along with many others, on his web site at
http://www.stephenmudgett.com/products.html
and now a Chinese die-cast model company has issued a model of the F9F-2 with identical markings to the ones in Stephen's profile.

While I did quite a bit of research to make the profile as accurate as possible (i.e., used a BuNo of an aircraft in my father's log books), in 1951 the VF-61 "Jolly Rogers" had about 1/3 dark blue and 2/3 aluminum finish aircraft and I did not have a BuNo to modex equation, so Stephen and I just made it up. Now it'll be enshrined as "history" since if you see it on the internet, it must be so...
Anyway, very cool to have this little tribute to my Dad on the market!
