This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

I wish more warbird owners would keep their aircraft in "plain" markings like this. This airplane looks absolutely fantastic.
Of course, if everyone did it....

Dead-on, Randy! It's like a sort of "tomb of the unknown soldier" thing with me. Sure, there were so many "fancy" paint-schemes once the war went on, but a whole lot of guys fought and died with basic marked aircraft. I see this type of warbird paint-job as an honor to them.

That paint scheme looks good to me. I notice that the canopy support structure looks pretty lightweight without much rollover protection. Is that normal, is it a safety point?

I have a ton of pics of front and back cockpits.I also supplied some of the parts.Normally the frame 5 armour plate would take care of the roll over structure.Frame 8 does that now plus the verticle fin.

When it said TP-40N , I was thinking like Kermit's which has a fugly periscope, and more importantly a second sliding canopy. this TP-40N is more like the TP-51's. How fully configured is the back cockpit? Does it have brakes , throttle, and how many instruments?
Very nice airplane,IMO.

IIRC, both canopies slide. Rear cockpit has controls and instruments...
I can't recall all from memory, but it was meant too be flown from rear
seat also.

Nice to see another SWPA aircraft restored (if serial on tail is correct).......Whilst not orginally a TP-40N its still nice to see the restored article......

Couldn't agree more! We talked some time ago about the photos shot of Upupa Epops during its intial flight(s) and the Corsair that ended up in Canada (now marked). Those things were just works of art. I second the idea of memorializing a larger group through the symbolic omission of specific markings.
Mike V ... did you take any photos of HJGB before all the markings were applied/stencils were painted over ... or was it done in pieces?

i think ive soiled myself......... wow!!! what a great looking aircraft that is! i especially like the fact that it is just o/d with no other artwork on it. i think that sometimes these planes are OVER restored and shined up too much. its nice to see one the way it really was! the b/w photo really looks great! when comparing with the color version you really get a different perspective on what things must have looked like back then. fantastic job on the resto!! YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! youre gonna have some fun!!!!!!

HJGB was done in pieces,
so there was never a factory 'raw' airframe to see.

Stopped by the airport on Thursday and was told that the aircraft had been taken outside for a full runup of the Allison a couple of days prior. All OK, 2,900 rpm and 52 inches.
