Having said that, we ALL seem to get along much better when we ALL stick to warbirds (after all that is the purpose of this forum) and refrain from discussing politics, religion, global warming, gun control, generational conflicts, the recent elections and all those other social issues. I know that I've let myself get drug into some of those types of dicussions so I'm as guilty as the next guy. But those subjects are not why I'm here so I'll try to stay out of that stuff from here on out. It's not like we don't have other forums where we can get into those subjects and do all the name-calling we want, if we so choose. Seems we've got enough to fight over concerning a/c (flying vs. non-flying, the NAFM and etc.) without going into all that other stuff...

quote]

Exactly right, none of this BS would happen if people posted about the subject and put all the other C.R.A.P where it belongs. In my 8-10 yrs posting on WIX ( and its earlier incarnations) I've never seen so much off topic rubbish posted as this year (and in the early days there wasn't even an off topic section!). People enjoyed posting about warbirds, perhaps that has become less interesting of late- well not for me. Sadly a large proportion of the international posters and plenty of the US 'regulars' have long departed here because this place has become more about pushing personal agendas and inflated egos, than it has about warbirds.
The moderators do the best they can, and IMHO opinion are a lot more lenient than they need to be in many cases. Post about warbirds and your time on WIX will be a happy one.....if not, expect it to turn ugly and don't come off all surprised when it does!

Bill, stick around we aren't done brain washing you yet.

That being said for those of you that are sticking around I would like to comment about all of the complaints about the moderation of the forum. It is a tough job. There are thousands of people on this site and not two of them alike. If Bill inserts politics in one of his posts half the site complain to the mods about it.

If they delete the post the other half complains about it and Bill gets POed and comments about it. I mean it is a lose, lose situation for the mods. They invest time, and they invest money and then they get a bunch of thin skinned princesses complaining about how they moderate the site they don't own. We all have choices in this world and one of yours is to skip a thread or move on to anther site. Everyone here including myself have been guilty of not just biting their tongue when they should have. If you want to play with the big boys then put on your helmet and pads and come out and play. If you want to sit on the bench with your thumb in your in your mouth complaining about getting penalized 5 yards then please just stay home folks. You guys are turning this site into a freaking soap opera.

One more point about the moderators. For those of you who don't believe in any censorship - just try having a week without ANY of the moderators doing their job. Remember a several months back when the scum were posting advertisements all over the board? Like how you can buy this pill and that? That fellow WIXers is also a form of censorship - that I fully support. Ultimately, anyone who argues against any form of rules and regulations has a self-defeating argument, because they would have to make their rule absolute as well. Rules exist by the very nature of how things work here on earth, and we might as well learn to exist with them. Like Dave said, there's been a significant difference this year in this board and it's not for the better. Hopefully we can all take a deep breath, enjoy some time off, and get back on topic for the next year!

Now, here's a Warbird picture to get your minds back on track!

Let's put out the fires and continue underway!

Now, I have to say that being compared to a gay lone ranger by Bill was, well, incomparable. But if you make him leave, I won't get a chance to recommend him to star in the remake of "Meatballs," the earth friendly, rainbow coalition one where young Mr. Greenwood is taken to the woodshed and 'broken in' by an aging Bill Murray... while learning to bomb for the Earth Liberation Front. Bill Makepeace's first targets start with some of the ski resorts he frequents... He's not really skiing- he's targeting...

Now, taking the moderator's point of view, I didn't feel that Bill spent a great deal of time researching his point of view, in effect just lambasting those who dared to refute. I think he is guilty more of poor research and bad form than true heartlessness. BTW, Bill, the quotes I wrote were from JFK, the man who made it fashionable for me to wear a girl scout hat and impress people...

And I'll re-inforce what somebody else has already suggested- you people need to get some thicker skins. This is aviation, people, not interior decorating, top model, or iron chef... If this isn't the forum for you, I'm sure you can find a forum where you are in touch with your "other" side, really know how to hem slacks, clean up your apartment while having fun, and learn how to make some marvelous treats your guests will rave about. Maybe you can learn to make an airplane cake! Oooohhhh I could just squeal with delight.

Now let's get back to aviation...

Ok, rough estimate is that half want me to stay, one quarter want me sent to Gitmo, and the other quarter have been heavily into the Christmas wine already.
Let's leave this for now, and everybody have a Merry Christmas.
I appreciate the support and the words of wisdom, and also the great humor that this has brought.
For those guys on my side, if Santa brings me a TF-51, or nice B-25 we'll go flying.
And for you guys throwing eggs at me, please just make em deviled.

Just got up - Christmas day here. Thanks for your Christmas present Bill.

There was no 'threat' to 'can' Bill, except as a purpose of starting another argument by Bill.

I replied to a long argumentative PM (which I assumed was a private communication) I simply told Bill, as a friend, not to complain to me when he got canned if he continued to be disruptive - after I'd pointed out again, it was not my call or ability (or interest) to ban any members.

That's it.

I've had enough trying to assist the smooth running of the site. I've got better things to do right now, including having a good time showing friends around my home town I've met through WIX. I'm not interested in talking about me, continuing to expend 90% of the energy on 2% of the posters who make 88% of the noise.

To ALL WIX members, have a great holiday period, fly safe, work safe and I may see you in 2009. In the meantime, let's see a bit more tolerance of other's views, less politics, and more warbird discussions.

Regards,

Mr. Greenwood, Greetings...
I only read the first two pages of this thread but was able to connect the dots.
I too can also "STRAY" from the subject matter or what is talked about here.
Myself a former VET hate to see SOLDIERS, MARINES or any service personell coming home wounded or missing limbs.
BUT it will always go much deeper than that.
I also do not like what our government is doing!!!!
To get away from all this B.S. I come here...
If I want to talk politics and all that crap I'll go to a web site that is for that.
This site is a place where I can see my true passion, aircraft/warbirds
and get away from everything else that is B.S. out there.
I hope things will work out, TAKE CARE, OUT HERE, TOM

I must say this has been interesting. Anyone who wants to throw daggers at any of the moderators should spend a week in their shoes. I have never seen so much sniping of moderators on any message board and those of you that have been should be ashamed of yourselves.

Bill, you are direct and sometimes can be kind of nasty. Here is one from earlier this year:
Quote:
A photographer!!! Why didn't you say so? Those guys are even crazier than pilots! Have you seen how much money they'll spend on the newest techno-photo-electro-tele gadget? Won't take any better picture than my 1975 Leica, but is fun to haul around. And of course you got to have the titanium case to put it all in.

Some amazing assumptions about someone you have never met and none of them accurate.

I wasn't going to say anything in this thread, but your comment about stumac in the thread I started for some photos was downright rude.
Quote:
Whose the well fed fellow in the front seat with the red hat and the smile?

You can try and sugarcoat that all you want, but that was uncalled for and it was rude. I have a thick skin and let things roll off my own back, but when you insult someone that I know, like and trust, I DO take offense.

I personally don't care if you stay or go. You have good knowledge that we can all learn from, but if it was delivered with a bit more tact, it sure is easier to swallow. Starting the thread and stating that you have been threatened to get canned by the moderator, who then has to defend himself is rather childish and all I could picture was my three-year-old having a tantrum.

I'm am going back to reading about warbirds now, which is what this board is intended for.

Have a great holiday, everyone. Yes, this includes you, Bill.

First off, I want to say, DAMMIT I MISSED THE PICTURE!!!

I usually don't post in many of the threads that end up going WAAAAAAY off topic, but I definitely enjoy reading them. The thing I see that is a major problem is that with this type of forum you cannot see the persons face or tone of voice when then post what they do in one of the threads. For instance, even in this thread a couple of Hellcats posts could really be taken badly if you didn't already know he was poking fun and not trying to be hateful. This has gotten me into trouble many times while chatting with my wife on Yahoo messenger while I am at work. I'll say something in jest, but she takes it as being serious since she cannot see the grin on my face, nore then tone that I would have said it in if we were talking in person.

With that said, you can see how easily for someone to take something that someone posts out of context and get upset over nothing. So if someone is expressing their opinion or feeling about a subject, there is no reason any individual needs to get upset and try to tell that person they are wrong and that they need to see things "their way". Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and like we all know "opinions are like a__holes, everyone has one". So unless someone posts a directed attack and specifically singles out a particular person, then no one else should attack that poster just because of their opinion. If there is an unfortunate post directly attacking a specific person by name, then of course that needs to be taken off line and dealt with.

We are all here for one major reason, our love of Warbirds and aviation in general. So if someone starts to take a thread off topic from it's warbird related origins, then we as adults need to not be tempted by the bait and not respond to the off topic post. If someone does post a message to try and take the thread way off course, then the mods can split that message out and move it to the "off topic" area as a new message thread.

I don't think anyone should be banned just for voicing their opinion or feeling, whether it be politics, religion or any of the other things that we grew up and learned not to bring up in a group of people. Direct attacks on specific people are a whole different matter, and if those occur, then some time of punishment, "time out", "suspension" or something definitely needs to occur.

Bill, as a Republican, and Air Force Veteran, I don't always agree with your comments, but I welcome them and enjoy seeing how other people think and feel. It helps me grow as a person to see many different sides to an issue. Thank you for your inputs, controversial or not.

And thank you to everyone else for your inputs as well. This place would not be worth coming here if everyone here believed exactly that same way on everything.

MERRY CHRISTMAS to everyone and I hope you all the best.

Darn!! I just read 4 pages of this post and there's no picture of warbirds or hot ladies!! Now I have to check out another post to see if it's more of the same!!

The two most important things in this world - warbirds and ladies!! not necessarily in that order.

Merry Christmas to ALL
