First off, I want to say, DAMMIT I MISSED THE PICTURE!!!
I usually don't post in many of the threads that end up going WAAAAAAY off topic, but I definitely enjoy reading them. The thing I see that is a major problem is that with this type of forum you cannot see the persons face or tone of voice when then post what they do in one of the threads. For instance, even in this thread a couple of Hellcats posts could really be taken badly if you didn't already know he was poking fun and not trying to be hateful. This has gotten me into trouble many times while chatting with my wife on Yahoo messenger while I am at work. I'll say something in jest, but she takes it as being serious since she cannot see the grin on my face, nore then tone that I would have said it in if we were talking in person.
With that said, you can see how easily for someone to take something that someone posts out of context and get upset over nothing. So if someone is expressing their opinion or feeling about a subject, there is no reason any individual needs to get upset and try to tell that person they are wrong and that they need to see things "their way". Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and like we all know "opinions are like a__holes, everyone has one". So unless someone posts a directed attack and specifically singles out a particular person, then no one else should attack that poster just because of their opinion. If there is an unfortunate post directly attacking a specific person by name, then of course that needs to be taken off line and dealt with.
We are all here for one major reason, our love of Warbirds and aviation in general. So if someone starts to take a thread off topic from it's warbird related origins, then we as adults need to not be tempted by the bait and not respond to the off topic post. If someone does post a message to try and take the thread way off course, then the mods can split that message out and move it to the "off topic" area as a new message thread.
I don't think anyone should be banned just for voicing their opinion or feeling, whether it be politics, religion or any of the other things that we grew up and learned not to bring up in a group of people. Direct attacks on specific people are a whole different matter, and if those occur, then some time of punishment, "time out", "suspension" or something definitely needs to occur.
Bill, as a Republican, and Air Force Veteran, I don't always agree with your comments, but I welcome them and enjoy seeing how other people think and feel. It helps me grow as a person to see many different sides to an issue. Thank you for your inputs, controversial or not.
And thank you to everyone else for your inputs as well. This place would not be worth coming here if everyone here believed exactly that same way on everything.
MERRY CHRISTMAS to everyone and I hope you all the best.
