This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Or we could ask those who post on WIX to keep to the topic (warbirds in case that has been forgotten).....or is that just too hard

Here's my two cents. I don't see why we have different sub-forums. People don't post threads in the correct forums and the moderators don't enforce them and move threads where they are supposed to be.

I think the MODS here do a fantastic job, but when they post about computer memory chip sales in this section, that speaks volumes. Nobody seems to care about topics being in the right place, including the MODS, so why not just make this place one, single gigantic forum with no sub-forums, then nobody can complain anymore! Selective enforcement of off-topic threads is not justifiable! With one gigantic forum, all threads would get equal visibility and people could skip the ones that don't interest them.

In my opinion, one of two things needs to happen: 1) either make this website one gigantic forum, or 2) MODS need to grow a pair and start moving threads to the appropriate sub-forum. That includes the MODS themselves, by setting the example, and not posting OFF TOPIC threads in inappropriate sub-forums.

MODS - you guys do a great job, but seriously, you need to fix this issue as it makes all of you look bad.

Huh? Did I miss some chips? Can I have fries?

Scott's lead and guide is for us to give as minimal intervention as possible - if everyone posts as a sensible adult, the mods aren't needed - so it's a look to yourself item. 'They started it' is for the back of the car with your sibling.

1) The sub forums are there to be used when people want to - poster's call. Grossly off topic threads are moved / locked. We have better things that play taxonomic twitch. If you want to spend all day annoying people by playing find the lady, apply to Scott.

2) Several sub forums exist to catch stuff that drifts from the first page. Even so, and with the stickys, not everyone is ever going to be happy, which leads to...

3) ...one swallow does not make a summer - all the excitement seems to have been inspired by one or two posts. Let's keep a sense of proportion.

4) What might seem OK to you as a bit of a razz/joke to another forumite might not read well to others - it's meant to be a kid friendly forum. Feel free to regard others as uptight, but don't get canned because you can't think twice before posting.

All covered by Scott on post 5 - some might like to re-read.

The Mods are here as volunteers who want to help the forum run well. We don't need to create grief for anyone, least ourselves, and frankly can get power trips in bigger, realer places...

...This sub forum is for Warbird discussions. Everyone's had two cents' worth, so let's move onto warbirds. If you aren't happy, a) feel free to start a new thread in off topic (and accept the results) b) complain to Scott c) dump the comment in favour of a warbird post, which is what we are all here for.

Nothing to see here, move along, thanks.

Alright everybody. This type of stuff is really getting old. This forum is about Warbirds, the meaning of which for our purposes includes pretty much any military aircraft. And that's what this forum should remain focused on. However, we are a community of individuals with different tastes and sensibilities and often times those conflict. The moderators and myself strive to maintain a balance but it becomes difficult when people veer off on some non warbird related tangent. For that I created the off-topic section. However, because it doesn't get viewed as much as the more popular sections do it is not used as much and people feel the need to post in the more active sections. This is annoying as well essentially telling me to go F myself, which of course I don't take kindly too.
People who do these sorts of behaviors and then get their threads banned always cry censorship or oppression of freedom of speech when its something they agree with and say its a good call when they disagree with something.

I have my own opinions on a lot of these topics but don't express them here. Why? BECAUSE THIS ISN'T THE PLACE. We should talk about warbirds, and aviation, and aircraft, and military history, and we can even talk about tanks and ships if you want. But if it involves politics, politicians, laws (that don't concern aviation), religion, and any other hot button topics then it will be gone if I see it. This is your only warning. If the mods lock a thread they do so with my authority, they will lock it down and PM with the URL and I will review it. In only one instance have I ever overruled a mod's lock down of a thread.

Let's all get along and respect each other, nobody wants to be the ahole at the party and I don't want to have to be the bouncer.
