You can paint it yellow and you can put the same wheels on it but it still did not serve in the USN from 1940 to 1961

know of one world class museum that just got their airplanes in a building within the last decade. Please be patient.

I volunteered at the Museum I think you are speaking of for five years and some amazing birds were and still are outside- things take time as you illustrated.

I visited the Museum a few days ago, and really enjoyed it, great job!
The engine room has great potential, the 2nd floor birds are amazing (not to mention the Grizzly test model), the Model 73, and N151 alone make your museum a great stop. As for the WB-47E, many thanks for saving her. Keep up the great work.

Gents I have more photos of the place if anyone is interested.

Steve,

Here is the Mite, on display in what was the restaurant in the southwest corner of the terminal:

These photos were taken from the upper level. I apologize for the reflection from the windows and general crappy pictures:

I've got a bunch more of the civilian stuff on the second floor, but I think they should go in the Vintage forum.

No comment on the B-47.

Nathan, that airplane would have been turned into beer cans in less than a month if the Museum hadn't rescued it. It will be a fine static display airframe. Be glad it's still with us. Other than having to remove the wings, the rest of the airplane was disassembled at production breaks and will go back together just fine.

I'm actually considering volunteering to help put the old girl back together again. It would be like wrenching on the "father" of the stuff I have to work on every day (757). I've built a Hasegawa kit, so this shouldn't be much different!

Ok, ...what is going on with DOC? Is it being worked on? Is it in storage? Have all efforts stopped due to funding? Who owns it? Whats the story?

It's in storage. Most likely put there because it's winter time. I know I wouldn't want to be working on that tarmac in 0 degree weather. I was working around the B-47 in january and it was nasty cold out there.

I'm not a part of the group working on the B-29. I have only been volunteering CNC machining for the B-47. Some skin parts need to be waterjet and working out the braces needed for wing reattachment. Whenever I was out at KAM they were working on the B-29 though. If I recall correctly, Wednesdays and Saturdays are the days most help out. I've not taken any time at KAM since about May though. Been buisy with work and school.

On the B-47: As far as I can tell from the pics the wing attachment pieces still need to be machined, the landing gear has a welding job to get it fixed and a few sheetmetal pieces need to still be cut. It looks to be at the same stage of rebuild when I dropped the ball on things in May because of schedule issues. A lot of the blame of the current lack of progress on the B-47 can be blamed on me.

Yeah, the little guy is cute! I wanted to move the Mooney advertising but decided against it. (I was trying to stay on the good side of the staff.) I'll get some shots of the civilian aircraft posted on the Vintage forum in the next few days. They have some pretty cool stuff up there on the second and third floors. Once the building is completely restored I really think people will love the setting.
