Mid America Air Museum

Planning a trip this holiday and wanted to know if anybody here is from that area? Gonna try and be up there this Friday but it may end up being Saturday? Also just wanted to check and make sure they were gonna be open the day after turkey day :!:
I figure also since I'm up that far I may as well go to Dodge City and photograph the A-26 since I've never seen it :!:

Steve,

While you're out at Dodge City drive west of town and see where the B- and A-26s trained aircrew at. It's really kind of sad, but all that remains of Dodge City Army Air Field is one hangar, lots of concrete foundations, and a bunch of chimneys.

Spend a little time driving around the cantonment area at Liberal, too--the original Sub-Depot/PLM hangar is just north of the Museum, and one other original hangar is still standing on the north end. Liberal was an absolutely HUGE station with six 7000 foot runways.

I live in Wichita, but I don't really consider Dodge City to be in the area. Western Kansas is a lot of nothing around there. Forbes Field in Topeka and Kansas Avaition Museum in Wichita are the other 2 in the area I know about. :)

You could also swing by Hutchinson and visit the Cosmosphere, one of the coolest collections of everything space oriented from a real V-2 to Apollo 13 Command module which a fellow worker and I got to touch as the display front area was open when we were there several years ago. We asked the staff who were working on the display if we could take some close up pix they had no problems and even suggested we could touch the capsule if we wished-that was amongst the neatest things I've ever done, what a monument to perserverance and sheer 'get it done regardless' - the problem now is, the pictures apparently got pitched out by my most recent former while I was moving out, did I mention that I hate the ground her shadow covers? :evil:

If you are Kansas City,KS just across the river in Kansas City, Mo, you have to see the steamship Arabia museum. the complete cargo of the steamship was salvaged and perserved. WWW.1856.COM

Yep, the Cosmosphere is a must see. I forgot about that one. In the lobby is an SR-71 and T-38. It's the #1 space museum in the world.

Sorry fellas, won't be going that far. Once I get done in Dodge City I will head south and go through Oklahoma and down through Altus to get photos of the B-47. I do want to head up to the eastern side of Kansas and look around.

Hey Scott thanks, I was just curious if they were older than a couple years. I would imagine she looks pretty much the same now. Whats the history of this one? Is it owned by the Air Force Museum system?
