Hey Don or David. You guys have any more pics of the "Chevy" since she has gotten a little more hardware hanging? Please update hanger details when you can..... I need to know where to come work on the big bird! Alan

OK... I could not announce anything until we had the deal cinched but as of Nov. 18th we just finished moving the first truckloads of B17 parts and shelving and other good stuff to a "new" hangar at HOBBY.
GCW is moving to WR-5 on the Telephone Rd. side of Hobby airport and will have the space for 9 months, with a possibility of extending, BUT this is in no way to be considered TEXAS RAIDER's new long-term home.
The airplane will probably move this Saturday, providing the proper authorities bless the plan.
This is a major relief because none of the alternatives were very good.
If we had not found indoor space we were looking at de-mating the wings and trucking to another airport.
So now we just need to GET ON WITH IT!
Thanks for all the moral support from the fellow WIXens who have been pulling for us.

Congrats to you and the entire GCW! It is a great early Christmas present for you guys. Now let's just hope that you don't need the hangar for the work on the airplane for the entire nine months.

Awe inspiring!
The Hobby Airport 1940 Air Terminal Museum just had a Tribute to the CAF and I got to hear the presentation by our Public Development Officer and stories by Col. Van Skiles.
Van flew TR from about 1970 until 1983 and he was the pilot who flew the ONE WHEEL "landing" during the Pearl Harbor re-enactment.
Given the History of TR within the CAF and the "Warbird Community" I could just as easily see the tribute on your profile being extended to the men and women of the CAF who have operated this plane since 1967.
I know their good works pale compared to the combat experiences of ALL the B17 crews on ALL the fronts of the war, but given Gulf Coast Wing's recent difficulties I have a new found appreciation for those in the CAF who came before me.
And somebody slap me (figuratively) if I sound like I am taking for granted ANYBODY else's restoration travails!

She was the First 17 I ever saw back in '78, so she has a special place in my heart. It will be a good thing to see her fly again!

Ditto here too Chris. !!!! She spent a few days here in BTV in the early 80's, I believe that she was broke and my uncle was helping them out. My cousin and I got the grand tour of the airplane by one of the pilots but I cant remember his name but I bet someone knows. He was in the pilots seat of 909 when she went off the runway and into the revene.
