Why are they at the Douglas plant if they were built by North American in Inglewood?

Do I see a pair of Hurricanes back against the building?

Must be a mistake in the labeling...

The other P-82 picture on that page is labeled NAA and there is a photo of Kindelberger.

Little known fact, not only did Douglas produce the F-82 Twin Mustang, but they also built the Twin Hurricane. Building a British airplane in an American plant was quite a gutsy move on Douglas' part, I would say! :)

Needless to say, the twin hurricane was not as successful as anticipated and never got past the prototype stage.

Douglas had to step in because the Brits were doing it wrong -- they thought a twin Hurricane should have two wings, not two fuselages.

The North American Inglewood Factory and the Douglas El Segundo Factory were immediatly next door to one another (i.e. contiguous properties). If you see the wartime shots of the Inglewood flight ramp with P-51 Mustangs everywhere you'll also notice a few hundred yards away the SBD Flight line. Looking at the photo I would have to say that NAA was having a major part shortage (e.g. propellors) and they arranged with Douglas to provide a short term storage area. After all, when you run out of a key component you do not stop the production line(!). Aircraft with the shortage(s) were sent out the door and parked.
