Didn't someone here like these quirky little aircraft? Found this one this morning as well. It's about the last neat thing in the stack.

Eric D. I believe.
He was a little miffed that the AFM scrapped the remains of one they didn't need :?

Anyone have any pics of the parts that were scrapped?

You better hang on to that photo, Kevin--one of those may be the Jeep that Spartan had after the war. By the way, do you have any photos of the Spartan AT-9 in the archives?

Cool stuff, and thanks for posting the pics.

Scott-

There may be a photo of the Spartan Jeep in the archive. I'm going through Spartan's photos right now and scanning them. About 3,000 prints and about 1,000 negatives, so it's taking a while. And there may not be a head-on direct shot of it, but it might be in the background of another shot. I'll have to look closer, but I'm continually amazed at what sneaks into the background of some of these photos.

Scott- Is this a Jeep? The tail and windows look wrong. I zoomed in on the original 75 meg scan, and you can read "22" on the tail that is obviously part of the s/n. The rest is illegible. I can't read the text block near the cockpit, so it's anyone's best guess. But that lines up with the earlier posted photo. How bout the other aircraft in the photo? Kudos to anyone who can ID all of the aircraft! There are some fun ones in there, including at least one rare Spartan product.

Kevin,

That is a Cessna AT-17/UC-78 on the left. The Seversky BT-8 is at the far end of the hall, and is that a Boeing FB-series in the foreground or a Curtiss product?

Scott- I think it's a Boeing. And thanks for the ID on the Cessna. Back to the drawing board, I guess. I'll keep looking. I thought that didn't quite look right.

Does anyone know where the airframe(s) and parts came from that was used to build the AFM's AT-9?

Serial numbers would also be great, but I would guess it would be a long shot at best. But I'll ask anyway.

What exactly was scrapped? The restoration guys all said it was all pretty bad, and what was left after was not much of anything.

Thanks for posting the picture. I am a big fan of the AT-9, would absolutely love to have one. I seldom post on WIX anymore because of the crap that follows most posts. I do, however, really appreciate the great picture.

Tim,

Some portion of the AFM AT-9 came from the former Tulsa/Spartan aircraft, the rest I can't remember--Arizona?

I think somewhere I have an old, late seventies issue of Air Classics with a very derelict Jeep featured in Warbird Report, somewhere in either Arizona or Texas.

Hey Guys:

I'm starting to post so much, I'm going to start foaming at the mouth!

Anyway, I heard that an AT-9 was found in New mexico crashed, and another was excess at the AFM, not including the one on display. The excess one was scrapped in spite of another museum literally begging for it.

Hmmn, I'm starting to hear about a lot of bad stuff coming from the AFM.

Again, does anyone have any photos of this or actual evidence of what this "excess" scrapping was?

The word from someone who knows people involved in the operation (mustangdriver) said right here in this very thread:
