Warbird Information Exchange

Lone Star's Tiger Moth got a lot of much needed tlc last weekend and is being prepped for shipment to restoration.
Where is the data plate on a military version of this aircraft? I'm not sure with Commonwealth nation flew it but it's a 1943 build date. N9714.

Looks like it's not wearing it's own serial: "C/No: 83896 DH82A TIGER MOTH Was: T7467 UK Civil registration, post demob(?): G-ANIZ Current (false?) colours: N9714"

That's a British RAF or maybe RN serial either way. It's fitted with spin strakes which means not Australian used.

From the photo on the Lone Star site, the colours look like the lower wing green / brown have been used overall, rather than the correct darker green /brown for the fuselage /upper wing - while I'm sure that's not a worry right now, with far more important things to do, give a shout here if someone wants to get the colours 'right' with I'm sure free and knowledgeable help.

We already doubt the color. It's probably just someones rough approximation of correct colors. The N number is in the script style and location of its original serial number.
It has definitely been totally re-skinned at least once and has some creative patching that we found.
In its active military career would it have worn any other color schemed besides "sand and spinach?"
What about RN colors? When were spin strakes added? Any time you deal with a sixty year old aircraft, there's the possiblity of having a composite airframe.
The Hawker is stripped and almost dismantled to the point of transport. It will go back to Ray Middleton who built it.
One of our members will be taking the Moth to his new shop as soon as its finished. This will enable me to get more involved since its closer to me by more than an hour than the museum.

A quick answer to one point is that Australian used Tigers didn't have the (anti-)spin strakes fitted; AFAIK, all other users did.

Colours - as a general rule, camouflage, yellow or silver for the military schemes. If the museum's not worried about representing its own scheme, an interesting representative scheme could be found, I'm sure.

Great news re the aircraft getting sorted.

It would be great to be able to bring back the Tiger by helping with a little info. I'm no expert on the type, but I do know a few!
