That'll leave a mark...wait...it already did.
I can't imagne what that felt like, nor what a pilot would have to do to get a chance to try again, in another a/c...

That accident occurred on
14 August 1943
F6F-3 # 25866
Pilot was
Lt. Charles Harbert

Naval investigators stated:

"Plane made a slow approach and entered a low altitude spin immediately aft of ramp,
hitting ramp and falling on the after searchlight platform."

Lt. Harbert survived that one (to my astonishment).
