What really gets me of all the history with that field, one of the best

Fighter squardron's, first Sikorsky helo flight, first Corsair flight and I am

sure there are more They never got much of any funds for any kind of

museum or aircraft display's, where is the history in Texas, DC.,

Pensacola? ITS NOT EVEN A VOUGHT sitting out there, there is probaly

a Vought in Ohio.

Re-sparring with just *normal* aluminum is an option.. if you have a tame machinist & some big lumps of metal to turn into chips..

Any chance of getting the pole-dancers to have a look at what their preferred option results in and re-opening discussions?

The best idea is to have a high quality fiberglass with steel structure replica built to put out side on the pole and sell this one to someone who will put it back together.
There is no easy way to cure what ails that thing and it will cost just as much to have a replica produced. That way the original can be spared a painful death.

And don't forget the "pole dancers" at McQuire who have a P-38 on one...and that ship was flown in!! I don't think they are too far from the salty Atlantic?

Getting back to the Corsair....Why not hand it off to the NE Air Museum at Bradley for display indoors? Then the pole dancers just have to take a half hour ride up I-91 to see it and it will last a lot longer?

50 or 60 years ago, the pole was an acceptable option. In 2008 though, I think putting a real Corsair on a pole is the exact opposite of "honoring" the men and women of the Greatest Generation. Look how bad that corrosion is... Once the vets all leave us, no one will care that a fiberglass replica is on a pole in a park vs a real airplane on a pole. The end result is the same. Put the real one inside a museum with a display so that the kids can learn more about it rather than trying to hit the plane with a kickball in a park.
