Friday I received official notification that on "12 Sep 08 you are relieved from Active Duty", followed by "Effective 13 Sep 08 you are permanently disability retired, with a compensable disability of 100%".

So this brings to an end an AF career that spanned almost 23 years. It's going to be hard to adjust to retired/civilian life. Truthfully it will be harder on the family having to adjust to having me around after being absent so much. Guess it means I'll have more time to go look at Aircraft!

The bad thing about being retired is you never get a day off.

ffuries Congradulations on your Retirement :D . Now you'll have to work ten years, paying Quarters to the Social Security administration  , just to qualify for the minimum payment in SS bebefits  , so all those taxes we paid to the system (with a gun to our heads  ) actually counted for nothing  , so If you are an A&P mechanic line sumpin up at an airport and have fun doing both :D . Good luck, I've been retired 14 years, seems like yesterday 8) .

Congrats man. I'm sure you'll find (sorry, your wife will find) something to occupy you for a few years. :)

BTW, make sure your get your DD214. If you don't, then you're never officially retired. I know two guys who didn't. :)

Looking back over the years, I feel that retirement was the best part of my career! No more duty pilot, no more orderly officer, no more getting up at oh Christ Hundred and getting back at Dark o' clock. No more compass swings, no more comp washes. Being able to be your own man and do what you want to do, when you want to do it. Living in your own house without having to pack up and move at frequent intervals. Letting your children get continuity with their schoolwork instead of changing schools. Bliss! I'm sure you will enjoy it. :D

Thanks for the all the kind words and advice. My wife (Boss) has informed me that I had better find a hobby quick, if not I might become a part of the landscaping. Also one of my final acts as an NCO will be to promote my oldest son by pinning on his Lance Corporal chevrons.
