Can we ID these planes from the photos here? This wreckage is located on Guadalcanal. I sent my friend on this mission and he saw and photographed the following at......

Looks like the remains of a Grumman Duck.

Looks Japanese to me beyond that no clue. That would however rule out an Electra. I apologize i couldn't help myself.

I think Jesse is spot on. I also believe that wreckage is from a Grumman Duck.
Here are two shots of Mr. Greenhill's Duck at OSH last year and from 2005 compared to the wreckage.
The drift sight panel is the one just below the rear cockpit

if the aircraft with the green tail is in fact a grumman duck then i would have to say quack quack quack as far as the wreckage pic goes. look at the angular panel line on the tail in both pics and particularily the opposing small panel line at the top where the rudder mounts. add the drift panel door into the mix and my uneducated little self would say there is no doubt that its a duck. however,the leading bottom edge of the stabilizer does appear to have a slightly different curve angle to it in these shots. maybe its just the angle of the picture. i guess ill be dinner myself if im wrong.
