I spoke to Mark Henley this afternoon. It has been pretty tough for Alan. He was awake for a time and knows what happened. He needs all the good wishes and prayers we can send him.

Aerobatic pilot fighting for his life
Posted by Thomas Spencer — Birmingham News July 30, 2008 9:52 PM

Aerobatic pilot Alan Henley was seriously injured in a fall.
Nationally known aerobatic pilot Alan Henley of Hoover is battling for his life at University Hospital after breaking his neck and cutting the back of his head in a fall from a backyard chin-up bar. Henley, the lead pilot of Aeroshell Aerobatic Team, was playing with his young son and daughter at their Bluff Park home when the bar gave way on July 22.

He was rushed to the hospital and since has endured multiple surgeries and is now fighting an infection that is causing a high fever. Henley, 49, is on a ventilator and has moved his arms but is believed to be paralyzed from the chest down. According to his wife, Jennifer, Henley has expressed determination to recover and to fly again.
==============================================
They are having trouble finding the source of the infection that is causing his high fever. Bad stuff! Lets keep him & his family in our thoughts & prayers.
Robbie

Checked on Alan over at Caring Bridge. His wife reports he is still fighting the fever, & they have had to up the pressure on his ventilator so he can breathe. Please continue thoughts & prayers for him & his family.

With all the time we spend here arguing about paint jobs and data plates it seems to me that EVERYBODY on this site can spare 5 minutes to go sent a short message of support to Alan and his family :idea: :!: :!: :!:

You're so right, Jack. I don't know Mr. Henley but I'm deep enough into warbirds that anything like this feels like family.

We all need to say a prayer for Alan and his family. Wasn't a big beleiver in that kind of stuff until last month when my 2 month old granddaughter had open heart surgery. Said more than a few and thankfully she is perfect now. If nothing else it can't hurt.

Excellent news. Just goes to show that prayer works. Now for the next step - walking! :)

Great news indeed. Via computer, Alan was able to watch Steve Oliver skywriting "Get Well Alan". :D :D :D They still need our prayers. Alan has a long road ahead of him.

Citabria,

He'd been given a 5% chance of walking some time ago. He'd been doing pretty well until this post today from Heather. I'm hoping and praying that it's a speed-bump that he can overcome. He had been doing PT and OT for a number of days.

Ditto on what Jack said. Low blood pressure has been an on-going problem they have been fighting. Please keep them in your thoughts & prayers.
