P: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget pounding on something with a hammer.

S: Took hammer away from midget.

Those stands are HUGE!
We had an engine problem 4-5 yrs ago and I had to figure out the problem with Bald Eagle and it was parked in a C-5 heavy maintenance hangar at Dover. It was amazing to see a C-5 about disappear in the scaffolding including one of those tailstands.
Over a period of a few weeks and multiple trips we ended up changing out the heads and banks in that hangar. In order to open the door you had to call a door crew. A set of guys showed up. One pushed the button and a few walked along with him. The door made all kinds of alarm noises. I asked why a person couldn't just push the open button. He didn't have an answer other than thats the way they do it. I couldn't secure a fork lift driver at 9 pm so I turned a B-4 stand into a crane to hang the bank in place by lashing a pole onto it. Thank God at 10 pm few supervisors are wandering around.

ZRX61,

Where I work, the titles are different. Each would be a "mechanic" rather than management. Management only shows up to ask the guy in the trench (usually me or a couple of other fellows, for some reason) why his fricking airplane isn't on the flight line. You have the percentages just about right, though.

That stand would fit in the back yard, but there's no way in hell to get it here...

It is required that the scrap from the stands has to be mutilated prior to removal from the base. Are they afraid Iran is going to get them or something?
