If it's not the real Oscar Mayer mobile, why on earth have it painted that way. People are just going to be confused when they see the real one. Ha Ha. I also support the Chow Hound paint scheme.

Did I hear that it is to be painted as the aircraft that a good friend of the museum was a ball turret gunner on?

Hey now wait a minute- this is a very misleading topic-
are we saying that Piccadilly Lily is or is not going to be painted as the Oscar Meyer Wiener Mobile :?:

- I for one think it would be a refreshing change but only of course if we can guarantee the accuracy of an official 8th air force Wiener mobile paint and camoflage scheme. I would hate to be the one to have to field the questions of a veteran at an airshow about why it is not the bun color or mustard consistency that he rembered in the big war.

If you can't laugh at yourself, why the hell be there in the first place

I heard a couple of nuts were driving that thing when it hit Clete's Taurus, then went in the ditch.

I heard the two nuts did not see Clete's Taurus in time to avoid the ditch. Apparently there was a bush in the way.

I'm suspended again right?

It is interesting to note the colour variations in not only the buns, but the wieners as well.
Of course it might be the Pan-chromatic film available at the time.

soooo...... judging by the wealth of great responses nobody has a clue as to why or when the plane is getting painted. my thoughts are why would they bother unless the planned restoration has been put on hold. hopefully they might be doing it to honour Wilbur Richardson as the chances of the plane being restored in his lifetime are probably pretty slim.(no offence meant Wilbur). i toured the plane extensively a couple of years ago and although it seems to be very complete it will need an awful lot of work to get back in the air. its a shame that they havent been working on some of the sub-systems such as the turrets and engines ect., while the fundraising drive has been going on. i also wonder if the high cost of fuel and insurance might have put the kibosh on the airworthy restoration. either way they seem to have done an excellent job on all of the other aircraft they have in their collection, so hopefully there is some good news around the corner.

any updates on the theft of Wilburs purple heart????

This cr*p needs to stop NOW!!!
You're clearly launching a coordinated personal attack against
weiners nationwide. Oh yeah-first it's one innocent weiner mobile.
But I can plainly see that it's a attack against all weiners.
Just remember I'm watching
BTW what was this topic originally about  :?:

I personally believe the Weinermoble would look authentic if it had invasion stripes. Looks a little silly driving around in one without them. Probably have people looking and laughing all the time, which they could avoid by simply putting the stripes on. Probably have the wrong engine and serial # carb anyway.
