Hmm, interresting...One that immediately comes to mind would be a Handley Page Halifax - much of the airframe flying surfaces and undercarriage could be 'borrowed' from the HP Hastings?

My choice would be for a PZL P.11c. Relatively simple structure, Bristol Mercury engine, certainly a do-able replica.

How about the Macchi MC-200? Didn't it have a steel tube fuselage frame (easier to build than many of the others?)

Theres a guy in Reno building one of these, I'm pretty darn sure it is one of these. He rolls it out of his hangar every once and a while and has the doors open during the Air Races.

I think you're confusing it with John Marlin's sorta-MB-5-lookey-likey-thingey built up from Mustang parts and a self-designed fuselage.

CA-15 bears a striking resemlance to the P-51, but is actually quite a bit larger, and about 50 MPH faster! It's a shame it didn't survive. It's kind of an Avro Arrow moment, with less foul play.
