This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

30 yrs from now people are going to be over flying Gary's house to take photos of his treasures, hounding him to sell them & starting threads on WIX trying to figure out just exactly what he has & where he got it from.

Once again without a camera, I could have gotten a picture of the C-118 cockpit leaving Boerne this morning, looking much like Garys' picture. Lost the C-118 but we have now gained a Thud, Pretty good trade, I will try to get Ser# and pics.

just remember when you take the letter "s" off of the word scrap....... you get crap!!! philosophy to live by in the warbird movement!!

Am I over-reacting? Well, there's a PBY in my back yard that WAS on its way to being scrapped, so I think being proactive was the best choice to make, regarding this C-97 nose. :-)

Gary

Nope, If I had a yard I'd be right there with you Gary. Keep up the good work!

Gary, is this going to require extra wasp & hornet spray?

Yeah the snakes and mice should be happy now. Too bad you don't have those other parts now, you could slowly put together an airplane.

Is this the nose section that was off in the dirt/grass a hundred or so yards from the CAF Hangar in Midland?

Did the CAF own it? Were they going to scrap it?

Just curious.
Tommy

Yes, its the one that was out in the dirt here in Midland. The B-29/B-24 Squadron is who used to own it, but no longer had a use for it, so I obtained it from them. The goal was to get the "hill" cleaned up, and I got the nose BEFORE the possibility of it being scrapped.

Gary

What's the current status of the PBY? What do you plan on doing with it?

Since this thread was resurrected from the dead, whatever did happen to that C-97 nose section? Where did it end up?
