'Memphis Belle' A-2 jacket question

Wed May 21, 2008 3:52 pm

I have an A-2 Jacket, painted with the artwork and script carried on the nose of Tallichet's B-17 during the making of the movie during the summer of 1989. I got this from the film company, who had a few made up for promotional purposes and were selling off their surplus stocks at the end of that Summer.

My question is, if I wear it in public over here in the US, will I have an irate General chasing after me demanding that I change the wording to 'The Movie Memphis Belle'?

The A-2 jacket police will surely hunt you down!

Yeah, it is. And if you're all really, really good, I might even post some of my photos from the filming (including some air-to-airs). It won't be for a couple of days though, as I'm in the middle of moving house and getting my internet connection set up in the new place.

My vacation in Summer 1989 was 3 weeks at a hot and busy Duxford, crewing one of the P-51s used in the movie ('Moose') and a couple of trips as waist gunner in the B-17s. 5 B-17s, 7 P-51s, 3 Buchons, plus B-25 and TBM camera ships. Fun times, great memories.

I am sure you will also get some heat for having the artwork on an A-2 instead of a B-3. How will the younger generations know what a bomber jacket looked like?

I would love to see some pics. For the record, I have nothing against the movie Belle alone. I am a huge believer when it comes to combat aircraft that if the real one survives, then it should be the only one to carry it's paint scheme. That goes for any combat survivor.

I agree. Avoids confusion among the ill informed...

Please post the photos as I'm sure we would all love to see them, even though most of us are quite jealous of your good fortune so many years ago!
