Forgive me if this has already been mentioned but in the current issue of Air Classics (I know boo,hiss) there is an article about the acquistion of a P-82 by Tom Reilly. The Twin Mustang (44-83887) comes from Walter Soplata and although it is missing one of the fuselages Tom Reilly intends to restore the plane to fly! It will be one heck of a restoration considering the missing fuselage will have to be replicated.

Why did the p-82 have allisons and not merlins?

Just a quick question, since I don't have the article, but I thought that Tom Reilly was retiring after restoring the Labrador B-17 down in Georgia? Does this mean that the P-82 will now be his last restoration, or is he back for good?

Because after the war, the air force did not want to have to pay royalties to Rolls Royce to use the Merlin. The Allison was a American made engine.

No building that one into space.It will require fixtures and more than a few of them.I looked at the engine mount from the bird and man is it involved.You will need one hell of a fixture just for the mount.Anyone know if the are same left and right?

If you had to have one to just take care of, well, that's a pretty darn good one! Changing the litter box, newspaper, giving it a wash, etc just to look at it everyday doesn't sound so bad. Then again, I'm not doing those chores.

Hope to hear some good news soon. Ears are tuned. :twisted: (see the ears)
