I think it is cool to see it as is. I also see the point of it not being a combat vet so clean it up. I am just glad that it is on display and can't wait to see it get some attention in the shop. Reading's P-61 will be the flyer.

I totally agree. Two nice ones in museums here in the US and one flyer. 8)

I think the Widow look great, I'd rather see it in patina, than it be stored away.
That goes for all of the aircraft.
Assemble them, display and pull them out one at a time to freshen them up.

Actually, putting her in combat markings would be historically incorrect, as I don't believe P-61Cs ever saw combat. NMUSAF's "C" is marked as a "B." It's not that big a deal, but to me it's kinda like painting a B-17G with a chin turret as the Memphis Belle, or a P-40N in AVG markings.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it wasn't built as a test aircraft and was delivered with a top turret. I understand they don't have the time/resources or money to strip and re-paint this aircraft at the present time but it's my understanding that the NASM has no intention to ever do so.
I'm a big advocate of displaying them "as is" until they can be rotated into restoration (i.e. Swoose), I'm just not a big fan of the new trend of leaving chipped up old paint "as is" unless the aircraft has a unique and historically significant background like Flak Bait. In my opinion, the museums P-38 needs a strip and re-paint. Any thoughts/differing opinions...

"Swoose" CERTAINLY has a unique and historically significant background... I don't think she should be repainted...
