This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Picky..Picky..Picky! You guys are being awfully rough on our "gubment protecterors". Sure
there are a few cases where a few innocents get bruised, but consider these cases as practice
for the really big cases. They finally stopped that interstate mail-order thug Tommy Chong in his
tracks didn't they? I feel so much safer now..

.....and to think back at all the B.S. we were force fed as kids in the 50's and 60's about how draconian and anti American the Soviet system was, how they siezed peoples rightful property without reason or due process.........Is it just me, or has the ying becoming yang?

why not bash the government that thought it to be a good idea to sell some one else F-14's
.
That dastardly Carter Administration! I'm sure the folks at Grumman had no say so and were forced to build these F-14's under duress.
Good thing we no longer sell our fighter jets to foreign interests.
Come on man. What does them taking an F-18 cockpit have to do with Iran? If they can just confiscate anything they want saying "it should never have been surplused" then we are really forked.

UMMM why do you have an F-18 cockpit in your friggin barn? I think it is odd no one questions why some dude had a set of cockpits in his barn that belonged to high performance combat aircraft. Right away everyone jumps on the band wagon to bash the government, but you know nothing about the story other than they went there. The truth is no one here knows what went on there, but everyone is fast to just assume that the government must have it in for some poor old farmer that just wanted to have jet fighters in his barn. There are tons of cockpits people own and are on display other places, and you don't see the government showing up there. SO why here? I am not taking sides, just saying to find out the whole story rather than going off half cocked on part of the story.

I may be jumping to conclusions. I do however have some experience in dealing with this group and predicting the path they will choose to take against individuals, myself included. I have dealt with a couple of attorneys who were surprised how my predictions of the Navys legal manuvering were more acurate than theirs.
I could have legally purchased a complete surplus F-14 fuselage in the mid eighties. I am glad I like Corsairs more than Tomcats! I shudder to think where I would be now if I had purchased that F-14! If in fact these components are not being obtained legally, who in the government is responsable for releasing them? Charge that department director with commiting a crime. Why would they? It is easier for the Navy to simply take it from a citizen and leave it at that, no further answers required, no embarassment. Any good citizen will pay the price for a bad bureaucrat.

Mustangdriver, the government that sold those F-14s, sold them to a relatively friendly govt. ( Maybe there were internal issues in Iran but the country was full of US friendlys at the time, at least until the radicals took over when Jimmy Carter hung the Shah out to dry ). The Govt that sold those aircraft is almost 40 years gone, I say what an engineering marvel that the Iranians have been able to keep these old jets alive ( if they really have ). Maybe we should rethink our actions in selling F-15s to the Saudis, who's to say that they will be friendly towards us in 2048 ?
Please reread the story, stripped cockpit sections, no wiring, just sheet metal sections of planes. Preventing the enemy from getting parts, sheesh, give me a break. You've missed the point " confiscation, siezure of property, no charges ". What flavor Koolaid were they passing out today ?

Investigators are
trying to figure out how three jet fighter cockpits got diverted
from their normal demilitarization process, and wound up in private hands.
That is in the first paragraph of your article. Therefore something got missed. I am not in favor of what the government is doing and has done to the F-14's. I am not in favor of many of the policies that they have in place, and the people in charge. But to me this sounds unclear as to what was there. That is all I mean. If it turns out that the government is wrong, then I will be right there with you all. I just don't trust the media when it comes to reporting on aviation issues. Anyone remember the T-28 that landed on the beach with the gun turret on it according to the newspaper? Grape koolaide today Rick. Ha HA I hear next month cherry

After thinking it over all day, I can only come to one logical conclusion. The Navy wishes to preserve these F-14 assemblies in around 3000 ft. of very dense salt water for the enjoyment of future generations. Allowing them to remain in a barn would only prolong the intact nature of these items that the Navy can plainly hear crying out in the night to be dropped in salt water.................

I'll bet he had them because he was a collector. He probably sat in them making 'whoosing' noises as if he were a real deal jet pilot.
Now he is making other noises I'm sure. Pirate Lex good move on not buying the surplus f-14 Fusey, I think they would have a problem with that now and just take it from you, after they brought 20 guys to protect them from you first.

You guys rock
Awesome display from everyone of Democracy in action...freedom of speech. That is about all we citizens are left with. Sure the gubmint is working on taking that freedom away from us at this very moment!
I know I am gonna butcher this quote badly and am not sure who even said it (Goering maybe?)..."if you can find a way to conjure up fear in the general population, create a feeding frenzy, then you will be able to do anything as a government official that you desire".
Not sure what to make of our founding fathers as it was pointed out to me by a WIXer that the majority of our founding fathers were attorneys. The mindset of the population at the time seemed to be that they wanted freedom from a tyrannical regime...whoa...seems the more things change the more they go back to the way they were! Think maybe we could get a couple boatloads of us Americans together and go down and take over Austrailia and start over again...without any lawyers involved???
As has been pointed out by someone in this thread already, until we can find a way as a nation to stand up to our tyrannical regime run amuck, we are just gonna have to take whatever shiite they force down our throats and like it. I'll take the grape flavored if ya don't mind
I love my country...it is the government I can do without!

Okay, I have to inject a bit of reality into the discussion here.
Do you guys REALLY understand the words you're using when you say things like "tyrannical regime" and apply them to the current US government?
If you think that, then you need to really get out of America and visit some of the lesser countries on the globe that really DO have tyrannical regimes. That would put things into perspective for you. Just look at what's happening in Myanmar as an example if you want something you can observe from the security of your own television.
We are nowhere even in the same ballpark as a tyrannical regime in the US.
